Kicking The Sugar Addiction

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled 8/31 for my sleeve, I decided to stop the sugar now and hopefully that will be partly behind me when I start the pre op diet in a couple of weeks.

I am on day two of no sugar (no bad carbs period) and I am having crampy muscles. Is that a possible side effect?

My preop starts two weeks out, which is two and a half weeks out, I am starting some things on my own. No sugar and then I am starting to walk this weekend. Trying to find a time of day to work in the walking, and trying to wrap my mind around regular exercise.

Couple thoughts for you...

Cut all the "junk." No cakes or whatever. I do the occasional apple or pear or berries. I do a very little bit of BBQ Sauce on chicken or pork on the grill. I don't use sugar or anything in coffee, never did, but thats a biggie I see people really overdo. Find sugar free jams if you do those. Natural Peanut Butter has lower sugar content and I think it's even better than regular PB. Basically besides going cold turkey cut it in every possible area you can. I don't even want the garbage stuff now and it's all over the place at work and I can just pass right on by and never bat an eyebrow. Cold turkey is almost always a set up for failure!!

Water, Water, water! Flush that crap out of your system. I have been doing atleast 100 oz a day, 124 yesterday! If you're getting headaches from it, take something and drink. You need to make sure you are getting Vitamins in as well. You are kicking the carb flu! It can be hell at first but once you break thru that it is awesome! You will feel much better. Caffiene will help with the headaches but that may lead to a crutch if you are taking too much, plus some say no caffiene after surgery so you have to make up your own mind on that one.

Good luck. You got this!

Thanks! Cutting out the Desserts is my main and first concern. Single and living alone, I had some kind of dessert everyday! I completely stopped dessert, I didn't drink much coffee anyway I have stopped that as well. I am having headaches but my sinus's are causing me fits so it's hard to say what is the cause of them. I will increase my Water, starting today, yesterday I had maybe 32 oz.

This is my get ready for preop eating plan, to rid myself of the sugar before taking on the real preop diet day 3. (so far so good)

And let me tell you don't add it back after you are fairly sugar free. I am pretty sugar free in my daily life. I do fruits and such, I just try really hard not to do added sugars. Cakes, pies, donuts, ice cream you know all the good stuff. I am 7 months out and went to my moms last week, and I ate a lot of sugar. Donuts, s'mores, cheesecake. Sweet tea every day. I didnt gain, I stayed under my daily count and did extra cardio but now I'm home and feeling the withdrawals. It's awful!!! I am drinking a gallon of Water a day fighting cravings hard core. It's just not worth it!

Word to wise once your clean stay that way ;-)

Wow! I didn't think about that. All the more reason to stay off the stuff. I am on day 3 and so far so good.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
