I'm having such a hard time with everything. Water, eating soft foods and Protein. Someone please help me! I don't want to end back up on hospital because I'm dehydrated. I do popsicles but after awhile it won't do for nutrition.

Maybe you shouldn't be too worried about nutritional requirements so soon if you are still having a hard time staying hydrated. Find something you enjoy drinking and make sure you get enough. The first 10 days, I consumed a lot of watered down fruit juice, Gatorade, and sweet tea. I wasn't consuming so much that it kept me from losing weight, but I did have enough to give me energy and keep myself hydrated. I didn't even worry about food or Protein. Once it was going down fine, and I was getting enough, I switched to Protein Drinks and yogurt.

Hi Tameka,

I'm 6 days post op and it is difficult to get everything down. Are you still in the liquid shake phase or on to puréed foods? I'm definitely not getting in as many shakes or liquids as required by my plan, but I decided to go at my own pace rather than risk anything coming up. Make sure you take the reglan (if it was ordered for you). It helps the naseua, and helps to keep things moving down when you swallow. I also make sure I'm sitting as upright as possible and I take about an hour right now to finish 8oz. I'm sure it will get better! Good luck!

For me sugar-free Jello helped a lot. I lived on SF popsicles and Vitamin Water. I was partial to jello because it had a little texture (over just plain fluids). Also creamy chicken broth did me good for flavor. Also there's a little cheat with the creamy chicken broth because they have very small bits of chicken in them that you can push to the roof of your mouth and swallow B)

I agree tackle one task at a time. Focus on fluids, if you can't find something that works for you, if not try switching up the tempatures. Once you've mastered that, then work on Protein.< /p>

Don't worry about nutrition yet. There are plenty of ways to get nutrients you might need other than eating. So I'll mirror what others have said. Focus on hydration.

I agree with this. Fluids first, then work on the other stuff.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
