Plication With A Low Bmi

Recommended Posts

Hi I am new to this site been lurking around for a moment. I had the lab band in for 9 years, I never did reach my goal weight, and never could get adjusted correctly. So with a bmi of 30, high bp, and diabetic, I am having the band removed and plication done on the 8 of August . My doctor did not tell me to go on any pre-op diet yet and my weight. Is 198lbs. I am a little nervous because most have the sleeve.

Have u discussed all the options with your surgeon? How did you come to the decision for plication?

We talk and he told me all that was out there, and I decide to go for plication , if it don't work along the way then I will deal with it then.

Well, around these parts, forgive us for all being partial to the vertical sleeve. It is a vertical sleeve forum and all. I wish you the best with your surgery and I hope you find support here no matter what type you get!

I suppose I was asking if you had done all your research and decided plication was best or of your surgeon led you that way?

I had a brief look at it and thought it was too experimental. Seemed a lot could go wrong due to surgeon or suture error.

If this is your set path I wish you all the best, but if your mind is still open to other options, please research the sleeve, you will like what you see :)

One of the reasons I rejected plication was. as far as I know, it does nothing to reduce grehlin. If you're really hungry all the time, it would be just too easy to graze.

I would urge you to check this discussion about plication first & maybe do more research on the procedure.

I'm not trying to be rude by any means (Because I know typing can come off completely diff than I'm actually trying to say it), but what are you looking for from this forum? Are you looking to be talked into/out of the plication? I would be happy to tell you whey I decided on the sleeve, and I'm sure many on here would be happy to give the reasons they chose sleeve, but I feel a little confused as to what you're looking for as in responses.

I chose the sleeve vs plication because 1) The sleeve reduces ghrelin production 2) The amount of time that it has been done 3) The number of resources I could find with information about sleeve vs plication (There was much less informatino I could find on plication) and 4) I am looking for a permanent change, and the reason to have plication (For me) would be because I am afraid of revision. There is no going back, but that's both a plus and a minus for me, and the positives outweighed the minuses.

Izuri, I realize that your question was not directed toward me, but I can definitely see why he would be posting here. Plication is more closely related to the sleeve than any other surgery. It is comonly referred to as Gasturic Sleeve Plication. It was originally thought of as a way to make the sleeve reversible. However this has not proven to be the case, many doctors have ceased even offering this surgery due to the high probablilty for complications.

As much as I would love to scream "DON'T DO IT!!! " I also have to realize that this is his choice and do what is reasonably within my power to help him make the best, most educated decision he can.

I'm actually glad for anybody that has the sleeve option available to them to come here and snoop around, ask questions, etc. His decision is not final yet, if I can be part of him making the best decision for him, then I'm happy doing that, regardless what his decision is.

I dont know if he made a choice yet I just want to say that I have had the lap band, and the plication as well. First I had the lap band, it barely worked, just making me unable to swallow food, then I stalled, then it got a little infected at the bottom valve, so I decided to take it off. then I had the plication later and it was a waste of my money, didnt work at all, gained weight even!, and now finallly I am having the plication removed and getting the sleeve which I SHOULD OF GOTTEN right from the begging, and quit wasting time and effort on mediocre approches. Good luck if it works on you, but I am ready for the next level of no turning back.

It is a weight loss surgery that sort of works like the sleeve yet instead of cutting the excess stomach they just twist it inwards where they tuck it in so to speak.

I've done some research and I've find many people had to get pilcation revise to the sleeve because the part of the stomach that was folded the blood flow was off causing that part of the stomach to die off .. I've visit the pilcation forum .. You might find ppl who ate going through the same thing your going through .. But in my opinion it was many ppl on that forum maybe cause the precedure it's not covered by insurance ... I would like to ask you a Q do u want this over the sleeve cus it's not permanent but if u think about why get the pilcation over the sleeve I doubt that you'll get your stomach unfolded back to normal size after losing a lot of weight ... I think if you gone go for it do it big ... My opinion good luck on your journey

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
