Life Change Coming Up......

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I'm new here and am so excited about starting this journey. I am 2 days into the pre-op diet and have my surgery next Thursday (26th July).

It's currently all I can think about (in between running around looking after my 2 young girls, the dog and cats etc) and I am just wondering - feeling like I am obsessed with food right now-what ican eat and what I can't- and I ind that really exhausting! Can anyone tell me-does this obsession stop and does life become easier at all after the gastric sleeve??

Really hoping so!!

Nicky

Yes, this is very normal. You are beginning a journey where your entire relationship with food is going to change. That being said, you have to know that food is going to be the focus of your life for awhile until you find your new groove. It will happen and it is such an eye opener, for sure. It amazes me on a daily basis how little food I need to thrive compared to what I THOUGHT I needed.

It takes time, but you will learn and thrive!

Hi Nicky, and welcome to the forums! Congratulations on your decision to make a healthy change to your life.

Like PdxMan said, once you are back on solids, food is going to be a big focus of your life. Not so much in that you constantly crave things and are stressing about what you can or cannot have, but because you are only able to hold such a small amount of food at a time, that you will want to make sure what you are eating is healthy and provides your body with nutrients you need. I recommend keeping track of your food, at least for a while. My Fitness Pal is a great site for that. You won't be obsessed about it, just embrace it, enjoy the journey of learning to like new healthier foods and how what you eat affects your body and the way you feel.

Thanks guys! Feeling a bit better about it today anyway-I do remember being told first few days of the preop diet can be the worst!!

You both look amazing btw! Looking forward to feeling better over the months to come!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
