Insurance-- 6 Month Bullsh*t Of A "professional Watched Diet"

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Soooo I have united healthcare. They will pay for my sleeve. SWEET. Now here's the bad news... They need 6 months of a diet that I have tried and my doctor has kept track of. After pulling teeth with U.H they told me weight watchers will count! Yipppeeee! BUTTTTT.... I need my weight loss logs.., does anyone actually keep these? I'm SO pissed that I have gone through this whole process, met with the surgeon, did all the tests, EKG, X-rays, blood work, endoscopy just to find out I may not be approved because I don't have my weigh loss logs? Not to mention my health insurance is up in OCTOBER! Has anyone been through this no is there any way to avoid this or anything? Feeling slightly defeated :(

I have UHC too and I'm surprised that they waited until now to let you know what the requirements are for WLS. When I first contacted them last October they let me know exactly what I needed to be approved. I then met their requirements, was approved and then went to the surgeon and started all the pre-op.

Sign up for my fitness pal. You can go forwards and backwards in the logs I believe.

I did this before at the same doctor and didn't keep my log and quit the program. The second time I did it, Once a month I had to turn my food, exercise and Water journal in. I still keep my log two weeks out.

For those just starting out, it always pays to be safe and use the log or journal. It really is important to see where you struggle and to learn Portion Control and get an idea of carbs & Protein, etc.

Good luck to you.

Maybe WW kept a log. I know they always take my weight and write it on my records- and their records. I'd call to see what it takes to get a copy. :) good luck!

if you have the fast pass you are able to go online and get your past weights. I am not sure how far back they can go but it wouldnt hurt to ask the leader or even call the 1-800 number. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone! Great suggestions. So with everyone's advice I have went to my old meeting (which was re located and I finally figured it out!) and they had my last 3 months but not any of the other times... But 3 months is a good start.

I am not sure what a fast pass is? So m assuming I don't have it, called weight watchers and all they can give me is a receipt of when I have been a member, which united healthcare is saying will not count. Fitness pal doesn't count either as far as weig log journals, but they mailed me a form that I can bring to the dietician to have her sign off on ,y progress over the last 3 months. Thank god!! So between the two... I should be all set and ready for the next curve ball the insurance throws at me! Alls it really is, is them not wanting to pay so they do these things thinking people will give up! But I'm a fighter! And I am ready to change my life for me and my 1 year old daughter!!

Thanks fellow sleevers!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
