P90X? Mixed Martial Arts? Too Intense?

Pookey, Are you a Larper? I remember seeing some guy who was into that on a reality tv show. It looked like he really enjoyed himself.

A larper is someone who does live action role playing, which is fun but it isn't what I do.

I do actual fighting, but with weapons and rules based to make the combat safer. I am with Dagorhir, Far Harar chapter. I am just getting back into it and I didn't realize how mich I missed it. I used to do it with SCA and other groups vith varying rules and safety...but that was over a decade ago. Dagorhir here is very active, and the weapons are safe enough to not worry too much...I do double sword and archery. I will also be participating in one-on-one sparring here soon.

I hope we can, I am not yet sleeved. I do kickboxing (Muay Thai) and hope I can go back once I am healed.

I am DYING to get back into krav Maga - but that is a ways out still - they just don't pull any punches - and it wouldnt be Km if they did!

My family and I just went to our first competitve jousting tournament. It was so much fun. I haven't done swordplay in years, but it was one of the competitive events. I helped some of the guys warm up and wasn't too rusty. I was only about weeks out from surgery and it was a great workout! I would LOVE if their were a troupe closer to home so I could go back to it. Do you compete?

Where are you at? I don't compete yet...but the first day at the groups weekly get together where they practice and spar and whatever, lol, I went to get a Water after we had been sparring and I heard this guy go "she hasnt done this in ten years? no f-----g way!" That felt good!

I've wanted to try cross fit for several years now but always felt too 'big' to give it a try. How far post op is it ok to do something as intense as cross fit? I'm 3 weeks post op and don't have much energy yet. I'm walking but I think that's about as much as I'm good for right now. When did you start doing more intense workouts?

I wouldn't do Crossfit until you're 3 months out.

I agree, crossfit is intense, I might even go further than Blackberry and say to put in a solid 6 months of gently increasing exercise before attempting crossfit. When I was able to put in a jogging mile on the treadmill without thinking twice about it I knew I was ready for CF.

I wouldn't do crossfit till you can run a mile without dying lol. I tried it a couple months ago. And barfed. I'm not there yet. Getting there though. I have private training and taking cardio classes, hopefully by the end of the summer I'll have the endurance it takes!

Lots of great encouragement and feedback on this topic- thanks!

I went to my general doctor for labs and an EKG to check everything and I'm in great health and everything checks out great, so I am going to go for (or continue to go for it) and listen to my body.

I think a big part of being healthier is not being sedentary in general- it's great that the sleeve has us eating less and therefore losing weight, but exercise is such a huge part of being healthy too, and makes me appreciate being healthier all the more!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
