I intend to follow kcage's advice below before my surgery...

...One day I was on this site and still feeling kinda unsure and I found a post someone had posted about how God answers our prayers regarding the things that concern us, our weight concerns us. The post went on to say how this surgery is a tool that God created to assist his children in an area where we have been weak. I had been looking for a sign that would say don't do it, and never expected a word that would tell me it's okay to do it. I told no one but my Pastor ( husband's blessing as well of course) that I was having surgery and I didn't even go into details, but I knew I needed the prayers of my Pastor to cover me while I was going through this process. I prayed and ensured that I was in right standings with the Lord prior to surgery and I accepted that if it was my time it was just my time, however, I knew that the devil would continue to try and feed doubt and unbelief up until the last moment. I am one week post-op and the only complications I had were caused by a nurse who was just trying to help me! I will say this, God tells us to cast all our cares on Him! I found out about the sleeve and had surgery in less than two months. I am 17lbs closer to not being overweight and experiencing health issues brought on by my poor habits. Is there another option, of course there is always another option thus free will. You are doing the right thing both sprirtually and naturally. Do your research and do your prayer search and should you decide surgery is right for you, yes you may still be nervous about the surgery you will have a peace about your decision! Remember the blessings of the Lord make it rich and addedth no sorrow! Best wishes and keep us posted.

I plan to pray about it before the surgery and ask Jesus to be with me during it and ask him to help the surgery to be a blessing to me. I'm going to repent of anything that I believe that I need to repent of so that I can know that I'm going to heaven in case God decides that it is my time and then I am just going to try and let God handle everything else. I believe turning the situation over to the higher power will help in this situation ecspecially when we are vulnerable and have no control over our lives during the surgery. Just putting the situation into the hands of an ultimately good and loving being that has the ability to control the surgeon and the surgery while I am unconscious makes me feel better about the situation. I'll probably still be anxious but at least I'll know that the situation and my life are in good hands. After thinking more about it though, I am also going to ask God to alleviate my anxiety and give me peace about the situation.

My philosophy is to be as self reliant as possible but I am aware of my limitations. What I can't handle on my own I leave in the hands of my Creator.

I am terrified. I keep trying to re-focus. I know I am going through with it. Mine is on the 29th of May (Tuesday). I have never been put under before. This site has been great. It has helped to ease my fears and keep me positive. Good luck with your surgery :) I am sure we will be just fine.

Being put under is a lot less of a problem than it used to be, I've been anesthetized 10 times over the last 51 years and I can tell you that it's become a lot better as the years have gone forward. You take a couple of deep breaths and you wake up in the recovery room. :)

I'm laying here thinking about the surgery. I have to be at the hospital at 7:00, and I just want everything to go okay. I've lost 16 pounds on the preop diet, so I'm hoping my liver is okay. Please pray for me. The surgery actually starts at 9:00.

I plan to get a stress ball (to use often) and start a new hobby. I use to make time for myself to read novels but lately I haven't made the time. Following surgery, I plan to read a few novels, which I'm purchasing now. I've also started a book club, which starts 3 weeks following my surgery to keep busy. I'm also looking for another good stress relieving hobby to conquer during the first two weeks post- surgery. I pray that my stress relievers help to conquer my horrible eating habits. I was a Drummer and plan to pick back up a month or so after surgery. Drumming is a good workout and and awesome stress reliever. We all have something we a good at, which is our gift from God. I think that we allow life to get ahead of us and forget to do the things that make us happy. Reignite or find your gift and watch the stress melt away!

May God Bless You!

What I tell all my patients before rolling back to the OR is that they took a bigger risk getting in the car to come to the hospital than u will with the surgery. Unless u have numerous comorbidities and u already are in a dire condition, surgery is relatively safe. And trust me when I say that this is a very simple surgery being done. I have literally been in close to 500 of these surgeries and only two of my patients had to be sent to ICU and those patients already had several major issues going on. U will be fine, no need to fret.

Everyone is nervous about the surgery' date=' scared and nervous- I know I was!

Try to talk to someone about WHY you are feeling this way and what kind of support that they can give you. A friend, SO or a therapist. Maybe even PM someone post-op on the forum.

You dont want to keep it all bottled up and end up in pre-op- hyperventallating and pushing your blood pressure up (maybe even preventing your surgery) or end up needing a sedative that will make you a zombie pre-op.[/quote']

I totally want to be a zombie pre-op! I am a little wuss... I am more nervous about getting a shot than I am having the surgery. Tattoos.. No prob. Getting a needle stuck in my vein... Effing torture!!

Whenever I think about how nerve racking this is gonna be I just think about the people I love that weren't given a choice to have a surgery and they did fine!!

That's good news. Being an old pro at surgery, 8 in total, mostly arthroscopic, I have gotten pretty relaxed about dealing with it. It's never fun but, IMHO, attitude is the biggest thing. If you are positive with yourself, positive with the medical personnel and leave yourself in their capable hands you will be fine.

I was filled with terror. I put off the decision for a long time, mostly because I fear all medical procedures. It wasn't actually nearly as bad as I had feared it would be and I am so glad I went for it. Look at my stats, dropping 85+ pounds since December, wow - I am now starting to live a life that i want - it was so worth it!

A week before the surgery I had my final appointment with the surgeon. I told him that I was totally committed to doing this, I knew I needed it, but I was having a hard time controlling my anxiety. It would hit me at night when trying to fall asleep especially, and it was escalating... getting worse and worse the closer I got to the date. He gave me a mild sedative that I used for the next week right before bedtime and it made a huge difference! Being able to sleep helped me feel better overall so the anxiety started to lose it's grip on me. By the day of the surgery, I was a little worried, but my much stronger feeling was "Let's do this!!! Can't wait to get started and lose this weight." Just having a little help getting my anxiety under control really turned it around and I went into the operating room (unmedicated) with normal vital signs and not feeling that crushing anxiety feeling. I remember talking to the anesthesialogist and actually being more curious about things then fearful.

I think I need to get that for dental work too - I really am a medicalphobe.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
