Since I came home which is 6 weeks I have only lost 30 lbs. I am still having trouble so that probably has something to do with the weight loss. Remember just because I had a bad experience does not mean that you will.

HELP! I have been reviewing surgeons and various facilities and now am a little confused. I have looked into A Lighter Me who works with Dr. Lopez and Dr. Garcia. I have been contacted by their coordinator Louise. I also looked at Dr. Almanza and have been contacted by Sandy and then Melissa. On the A Lighter Me website, Melissa is mentioned as a coordinator. Does Melissa work for both surgeons? Also, Almanzwa is listed as operating out of Jeruselum hospital (which is really a clinic) but Melissa contacted me and signed her email from Mt. Zion. When I checked Mt Zion's website, it is actually Jerusulem hospital. I have also seen past posts where Dr. Almanza operated Emmanuel Hospital.

Do you see why I am getting confused? I am just looking for a surgeon who is experienced, has low infection and leak rates, has good reviews and uses a hospital. Can anyone help

me sort through this and is Almanza a safe surgeon?

Thank you for reading and replying. How was your experience with Dr. Garcia? Any issues, complications, ect? I am very interested in people's progress after they had the sleeve.

I used Dr. Garcia and had a great experience with him. When I was asking him about how they take care of complications he said he hadn't has a leak in 3 years. I'm not even 2 weeks out yet, but I'm doing well with my sleeve, no pain since day 3 and my incisions look great.

I was sleeved 7/9 with Dr Garcia.. I sent a deposit & brought a cashiers check with me. I brought the cashiers check to the hospital & had to ask someone what to do with it, no one asked for me it! The care I recvd was great, I was in no pain!

Anyway, I do have issues but I dont think it is anyhting done by Dr Garcia.. I think im in the 1% bracket who is just having issues with eating, drinking.. I have lost 24 lbs, but now seeing a GI doc for heartburn, acid reflux & have an EGD, esoph manometry scheduled for 8/29.

Hello i had my sleeve done by dr.almanza 10-31-11 and i would not change a thing. I loved the staff. It is in a VERY CLEAN location and the recovery house is great. I would much rather be there than in a motel i think that way some one is there with me at all times. As of today I am down 107lbs. I still have about 30 more to go. things have slowed way down for me but that happens when you get closer to goal. good luck

My surgery is 8/31 with Dr Garcia, what is your date? I sent my deposit via credit card, but I am taking the balance with me via cashiers check. As I understand it, I am supposed to send a fax of the cashiers check 1 week prior to my surgery date. Why are you paying upfront?

My date is sept 10th with Garcia, I wish you the best, We will do great with him!!

Talk to you when you are sleeved!!

Im going with Dr Garcia Oct 27. Im nervous, excited, scared, ready, and committed. im sure everyone here has felt, or is feeling the same way...I scheduled my surgery around the presidential election. Im very excited, scared, nervous and ready for that too! Im stoked to be able to recover while watching all the election coverage :-) I should probably refrain from yelling and throwing things at my TV, though: might bust a stitch or two....

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
