Is it me or does food not taste the same post sleeve? I tried one of my favorite foods today, just a bite, and it was not as good as I remembered, almost down right disgusting!

Certain fried and oily foods aren't as good to me anymore. I can't stand scrambled or fried eggs but can eat hard boiled and deviled eggs now. I used to LOVE chicken Pad Thai, and a few days ago I ate some for the first time since my surgery (9 months ago) and had to run to the bathroom to vomit!

I love sweets more now, though  Maybe because they're easier on my sleeve. My tastes have adjusted to accommodate what my sleeve can handle. I guess because I've had bad experiences with greasy foods (like vomiting every time), they don't taste as good anymore.

I loved big macs before surgery and now the thought of one gags me. I just thought of it because someone mentioned a big mac in another thread.

I spent 4 months hating sweets. Unfortunately, that didn't last, but I can control it better now than pre-op. Most spicy foods don't agree with me, so I tend to avoid them these days.

On the bright side, I've found that green Beans are tolerable now. I still love broccoli and collard greens and my favorite fruits, bananas and pears, are easy to eat and digest.

I'm lactose intolerant post surgery. I've recently started experimenting with milk again, but my sleeve hasn't changed it's mind about regular milk quite yet.

Yes they do seem to change. Not only do foods I used to love sound and smell nasty now but I crave foods I have never liked. Recently its been sushi, I HATED it before now I love it!! Unexplainable lol

Before surgery I was not a fan of fish or tomatoes, now I love a good grilled fish and a slice of Tomato. Who knows what else I will like.

Do a search on ketosis on this site. Acetone gets secreted in your mouth and it throws the flavor of everything off. Once you are able to get your carbs and calories up, you will get out of ketosis and things will start to taste normal again.

Wow pdxMan, you helped me tremendously! The info. on ketosis was so helpful, I get it now, I don't feel like eating anything and now I realize it is just because I am burning up all my fat reserves, which is a good thing. Question, how and when do you start to increase your carbs??thanks.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
