March And April Sleevers How Are You Doing? What Are You Really Eating? (Confessions)

Recommended Posts

Sleeved on 4/30 and am on the pureed diet for 2 weeks. Today I had oatmeal for Breakfast, Protein Shake, lunch was a few bites of hummus and cottage cheese, another Protein shake and dinner was some tofu. I get full after after 6 or 7 smallbites. Actually I feel kind of full all the time. I have to work to get the Protein Shakes inbetween my meals so I can get the required protein in. I am able to do it but with the Vitamin supplements and meds (anti reflux, anti gallstone, allergy) I actually have to make a schedule to make sure I get everything in. No cheating yet. I am too scared of getting sick so I am doing everything by the book so far. I will be glad when I can have something like a piece of toast though. :) You really appreciate food when you can only eat certain things.

BigKim, I think 28 pounds in a little over a month is awesome! It's 3 weeks for me and I have lost 6 pounds. I was warned that there will be plateaus just like your average dieter. But it is still going to come off faster in the long run.

Camarillo CA, I heard that you actually will lose more if you take in more calories not less (I mean within reason:) since too few calories causes the body to gointo starvation mode. Maybe you should actually be eating a bit more and moving more. I have a hard time with the moving part myself. :) I knew I would. But I am working on it.. Good luck all! I have to go back to work tomorrow so time to go to bed. I am nervous after being out for 3 weeks...

This may be TMI but I had been on my time of the month for almost two weeks!!!! What is going on? Does anyone else have this issue? Again TMI, but I do not go to the restroom unless I take a laxitive. Will it always be like this?

I was sleeved on may 1st. I am on soft foods, but am finding everything agrees with me. I've eaten tuna, eggs, chicken, Beans, pot salad (very little), chicken picatta, cut very small and chewed well. Veggies, tiny bit mashed potatoes. Pasta salad mostly the veggies. Bite of ham and cheese sandwich. Bite of quesidilla. pudding. Tiny bites of meat. We had ribs for dinner had just a small bite. I just need the flavor I hope I'm not doing anything wrong, the doc said as long as I chew well I should be ok! I'm losing a pound every three days. Down 35 so far. 20 before surgery and 15 after. Maybe you are eating too little, maybe a stall. Try going back to the initial process for a week see if you can jumpstart your weightloss efforts.

Seems like you guys can get a lot down. I was sleeved on Tuesday may 22nd and it takes me 30 mins to finish a shot glass of Water. Every sip I take feels like a gallon and my brother has to pat my back until I burp. I can eat about 2-3 baby size spoons of Jello until I feel like my chest is gonna explode. The only thing that goes down ok are the

popsicles. I can't wait until I'm pass this stage cause it sucks.

My presurgical weight 284 I am now 249. I am on a full diet with no restrictions. I feel great. I eat about 800 calories a day. I don't deprive myself. Yesterday I had 1/4 of a cup cake. Today I tried to eat a steak taco that I bought from a vendor and took 2 bites and couldn't continue. That taco really messed up my stomach.

I hade two bites of a chicken taco today and it was a good thing I had a bag, I was at a birthday party today and had a couple bites of a dairy/gluten free cake and some gluten dairy free ice cream it was like a watermelon Italian ice really good. But the taco didn't like me.... But might been I didn't chew it to mush like everything I chew these days. I am on full regular and required to get 100g protien 80 ounces of Water and under 1000 cal. I have found only problems are things with shells... Corn, peas, Beans, mushrooms, broccilie. I keep to my diet but if something pops up at a party I try things and don't say never can have cause that's no fun and i know I'll be stupid and try and have it out of depriving myself. I lost 28lbs in the last 30 days.

Confession... don't judge but..... I eat whatever I want. I do try to stay away from carbs and sugar but I basically eat real food just very small amounts. The thing is I seriously track everything I eat from the oreos, to the shakes, to the bite Cereal and my calories aren't over 800 for the day. My slogan is that I am depriving myself, really truly depriving myself so I eat what I want and try to mantain a balanced diet.

A normal day is a shake for breakfast, Protein like tuna for lunch, a normal dinner of meat and vegetables, and Atkin or luna Snacks. But if I go over someones house I always taste the food no matter what it is. Just a bite or 2.

I still love food and to cook, but I am losng weight :-)

Ebonyj, what are you doing for painkillers, and have you tried warm liquids (like the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken soup)? I know we're straying off topic here, but I find my sleeve cramps more if the liquid is cold, and if my tylenol or vicodin has worn off. The colder the liquid, the worse it is. I tend to let everything cold get to room temperature, or mush the Jello around in my mouth til it warms up. The popsicle liquid seems to warm up before it goes down, too. But I was sleeved on 5/21 and doing well with my shakes, Soup, popsicles, and jello. Not much on the scale yet, but I still feel post surgical gassy and bloated. I had a major operation 6 days ago, I'm going to expect my body to take a while to get better.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
