August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Recommended Posts

I hope this is okay to share. But my feelings regarding the surgery have been jumping from excited to darn right frightened, as I know they do for many of us. A few weeks ago, I had some family over and I was mentioning my fears and how I don't want to leave my son behind. Well, yesterday evening my husband went out and got the mail and there was an envelope from my grandma. Inside was a little placard that said "When you expect miracles to happen, miracles will happen.' and then on the back she wrote a nice message about how she prays for me every day and that she wants me to have strength and BELIEVE IN MY HEART that everything will be okay. I read it and just broke down. My poor husband didn't know what to do with me. LoL

But after reading that I was filled with a sense of peace that I haven't had yet. So many things have fallen into place to make this surgery possible for me. I have to believe that it's meant to be.

Great Great note and advice and such wonderful support.

I have told my immediate family consisting of my kids and and there spouses, hubby of course to...actually sat them all down told them where my health was at, I have in the past tried to hide it all from them of my blood pressure and heart and so many other things, but was past that point of hiding it anymore. Wasn't sure how they was gonna accept it where my father just died 2 years ago from all most where my health is going and the doctor told me I might have 5-10 years going at the rate I am at, the good thing was my heart is not damaged. So before that happened I knew I needed to do something now. They was so supportive they all agreed they needed to make lifestyle changes to and so as a family we have been trying to change how we all eat, having a check in every two weeks how each is doing and a family fb page dedicated to changing.

Other then them I have not told my Mother or sisters, nor my in-laws, I do not feel I would get support only negativity and I choose not to have the negative around me at this time.

As far as schedule I actually am being very selfish and choose not to have so much in my life at this time so I could focus totally on me at once and have the time needed to eat proper and right, to not be so darn hungry I run and grab what ever I see, I do spent lots of time researching, reading, and keeping my mind so focused on the surgery and this lifestyle change.

LeprecaunaMomma and everyone else in this group the energy, excitement and support you give is so wonderful exactly what the doctor ordered for me...Have a great day everyone and Smile your worth it. :)

I am 5 weeks out until surgery but I have decided to give up sugar now so that I don't have the sugar addiction to cope with along with the pressure of the liquid diet. (Notice I didn't say "try to give up" LOL) Yesterday was my first day w/o sugar, and I am talking all bad carbs as well. On to day two ... Any advice on kicking the sugar addiction?

Is anyone else getting scared and thinking of canceling the surgery? I'm schedule for Aug 10 and so afraid of making the wrong decision. The what ifs are killing me.

Hey hun

Fear does many things to us and most of the time it is never about what we are fearing....This is without a doubt the biggest life altering change you are ever going to make. Losing weight. Not the surgery because it is just a bumper guard....Changing who we have been for a long time is scary...but look at what might be scarier? Health, restrictions, maybe even death for some of us....

Fear is worth fighting through...whatever you decide you will be ok but know that the only thing happening in you is fear....You will make it through this...huge hugs...

Yes its a roller coaster of emotions but it can also be played out the other way:

What if you keep gaining more weight

What if you end up on more medication

What if you cant fit in a plane seat, tie your own shoes, walk through a store, clip your toenails, run and play with your kids, go on walks with your family

The what ifs can really get to you....so put that hot sexy image in your head of a health you and dont let the what ifs get to you. Its nothing but a rainbow day :) and one step loser to the healthy you/us thats waiting to get out of these big shells

I did my pre-op last week and found out yesterday that I have a spot on my lung. Grrr. I am getting a CT scan this afternoon. I really think it is going to be nothing but I am not going to lie, I am a little unnerved but this. Surgery IS one week from tomorrow! :)

Motivational thought of the day:

Most of us got where we are today by mistake... other things became more important like our children, jobs, family. Somehow along the way we lost any remnant of caring about ourselves, if we had any to begin with. I cannot speak for everyone but I know for me I woke up one day and realized life led me, I didn't lead it..

Our choice, this choice we are making now in our lives. It is about us. It effects everyone around us but it is about us, about giving ourselves permission to put ourselves upfront and centre for a change. It is exciting to realize that putting ourselves first and making the choice to finally take a stand and take care of ourselves means that our life will start to take a whole new meaning.

No matter what we want in life we cannot achieve anything unless we believe in it. So for the first time in a long time...Believe in yourself, in your chance to change, in your ability to be the person you are meant to be,

Love this process, accept the bad days and love learning how to be a new you....LOVE YOUR LIFE!

hugs KJ

Stay strong. The first few days are the toughest, but then it gets better.

Not cheap, thrifty! ;) Second-hand is my favorite way to go!

I've been a second-hand shopper since I was a kid with my mom at The Blue Bird Circle Shop and Catholic Charity Guild in Houston.

Hi sis, so very well said...so glad your back.. have miss your thoughts....Here is a few of mine to add to yours, not as well worded however.....we as women (dont mean to leave you out guys) I belive are taught not to be selfish and give of our selfs and for the most part its what we love and who we are...but its now time for us to take control so that we can be around to take care of others later. if this was our child or loved one we would do whatever for them to see to them and put every effort into them...so we need to reroute our thinking for now.

We need to accept and want to make changes in our lives for with out that we become complaisant and slip into bad habits.

We need to love our selfs, even if we have a slip up. we are only human

We need to realize we are important and matter. We are someone's child, someones parent, someones sibling, someones love.

We need to want to have a Dream and go after that Dream and make it reality

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
