August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Recommended Posts

Just make sure that any Protein Shots you get contain whey Protein. Collegan protein is harder for sleeves to digest. Also, it's derived from boiling cow hides and hooves. Gross!

Dont think we will be able to take those watermelon bullets, they are 3.8 oz and requlations is 3.4 oz...so might have to buy them after the plane ride down....but I am also confused when you can even use them...maybe it is just incase as they do say bring them so need to find some under the weight, heck even bullets need to weigh lol.....

here is the plane regulations..

311-3.gifAll liquids, gels and aerosols must be in 3.4 ounce (100ml) or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be 3.4 ounces (100ml) or smaller.

311-1.gifAll liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.

311-1.gifEach traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.

Is your luggage only going to be carry on? I would ask Susan if they can go on the plane. I know according to the paperwork its recommended that we bring a few bullets with us, but not required. I for one have no idea why being they don't allow us anything but Ice chips afterwards until day 2 we can do some Water. Of course this may be different for everyone as well. Not sure.

I have a feeling it has to do with allowing some of the swelling to go down and to not have vomiting because of putting too much liquid into the sleeve right after surgery. I have read/heard of other Dr. A patients that said they didn't really feel like drinking right away anyway. I know he takes a very conservative approach with the post-op diet, to avoid complications.

what are these bullets?

I have so been wanting to ask that. I figured I would eventually come across the answer. Today, at Wal Mart and HEB, I saw them, but did not put 2 and 2 together as the "bullets" everyone has been referring to. NOW I get it.

What is your date??? I will add you all shortly.

Day 1 of my pre preop diet is going good. probably had a little more cheese and turkey than i should have but its a huge cut from my normal lunch of fast food from wendys or mcd's. I had cheese fries last night and a chicken cordon blue sandwich for my "last meal" last night. the sugarfree Protein hurt my tummy this morning' date=' as i knew it would. But, i packed pepto bismol and plenty of tylonal and i feel good. Thinking about food but i know i can't blow this! i'd love to lose 40 lbs in these 4 weeks of pre opness :) [/quote']

Waiting to hear back from Nick. Should be either 8/23 or 8/30.

I too tried a shake for lunch to see what I am getting myself into. Now I haven't gotten my Unjury samples in yet, but when I went shopping the other week at Wal-mart and Sams for surgery items I came across Jillian Michaels vanilla Creme Protein Powder. My hubby said just get it and try it, if you don't like it, throw it away.. (btw i love how men disregard money at times) Anyway, I decided that since I am about 10 days from diet i better get my head in the game and start figuring out what I am gonna do. One of the items we are allowed to have on liquid diet is carnation Breakfast sugar free. Of course this only comes in chocolate or so I could only get. I got me a cup of milk, one packet of the breakfast drink mix, one scoop of jillian's powder and a few frozen strawberries and a piece of banana ( just a very few-which I have no idea if I can get cleared for a few fruit on pre-op) It wasn't that bad. It kinda reminded me of a melted banana split although I have to say Sugar Free Chocolate drinks taste nothing like chocolate. None the less it was drinkable, Before I added all the fr uit I even tried it plain, just the Protein, milk and carnation breakfast that was even drinkable, so worst comes to worse I can chug that down easily, just the fruit makes it a lil more pleasing,

I've been having a Protein Shake in place of lunch for the last six weeks in preparation of the liquid diet. I found a powder from Ideal Shape. I found it online when I did a search for the best tasting protein powders. It's pretty good and comes in vanilla and chocolate. It's a little on the pricey side but I figure if I can get it down, it's worth it. I also bought extracts to add to make different flavors to change it up a bit.

I don't know why, but I've been told that our tastes will change post op. drinks that we like now might not be so tasty later. I've been buying small, sample sizes, rtd bottles, etc. I'm having surgery in NYC, close to home, so I will have just a few thinks, mostly the clear liquid drinks. I did find some Jello like packs with a high protein count that I am saving for that. I've been having a shake for breakfast and sometimes for lunch. Found a rtd in costco that has 30g of protein. I don't have any real pre op diet, so I've just been playing

August sleeve sisters, we are getting soooo close. Excited for us all to be on the losers bench. This is the very best thread. They should give us an award! Lol.

Hi August losers. I love the Premiere Protein at costco (30 grams) but I'm apprehensive about stocking up cuz I too have heard taste changes after surgery. I've been spending the evening cleaning out dressers and closets. I put all my size 22 winter clothes in garage, hopefully I will be giving them away shortly after surgery. My drawers look so much bigger now! I just don;t want to jinx anything by giving stuff away yet but I'm sure happy to know I won't have to dress like I did much longer!

Michele an excited August LOOOOOSER!!!!!!!!

I can so relate to the clothes. I am a horrible preserver when it comes to my clothes. I have clothes from my skinny days (size 10) all the way to my bigger days (size 26-way too big for me) to my current size of 22. I know I sshould have thrown those bigger ones away or passed them down, but I always hang on to things for that what if moment, just in case I would gain or lose weight, I think I will start getting rid of the too big clothes, weed out some of the current size clothes, and hopefully i have enough in between sizes to hold me over til goal.

As far as the Protein Shakes I am not really stocking up, I was merely getting some to get me through the pre-diet phase.

I wanna stock up cuz I love the vanilla but I'm trying not to practice old behavior :)

I know what ya mean about hanging on, I have size 22 down to 16 and lemme just say I was almost into a 24 this past winter. I really wanna get rid of the stuff but there's fear because of all the yoyo dieting my whole life. Hopefully this tool will change all that.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
