I'm going to an information seminar next week at a Center that does Bariatric Surgeries. You are required to go to one of the seminar's to get the process started..

For those that have gone to similar, what should I expect?

My info seminar was VERY informative. My surgeon conducted it and had a powerpoint slide show containing information about the different types of weight loss surgery which definitely helped me decide on the sleeve over the lap-band.

Ask any and every question you have. You should feel informed and comfortable enough to take the next steps required to sign up for the surgery. Ask about the surgeon's success rate, and about leakage stats. You want to make sure you'll be in good hands.

i'm sure there are threads here on VST that can give you ideas on questions you should ask the surgeon.

My surgeon also conducted the seminar I went to. He told of the pros & cons to each type of surgery & answered any questions we had.

I went to a local seminar, not by my surgeon, about a year ago. It kinda felt like a sales pitch for the band. The surgeon probably has a better profit margin on bands. Someone asked about the sleeve and she said she does them, but there wasn't enough long term studies on the outcome ... eesh.
