Hi all i am laying here in the hospital first day after operation. They had me out of bed today ' date=' had a shower and got to put my own clothes on. Have been drinking fluids and couple spoons of yoghurt, custard and Soup throughout the day. After lunch they removed the drip because I'm taking in enough fluids. The trick is to walk as much as you can every hour or so couple laps around the ward and keep sipping on your fluids that way they take you off the drip and you can go home earlier I've been told I can go home tomorrow arvo :)[/quote']

It's getting close for u Misty!!! I thought that if I had Soup in the freezer it would help. My Post op will be for 4 weeks. Dr Daoud said 2 weeks like pre-op then puree 1 week then soft food 1 week. But Just incase it takes me longer I'll have food to puree or have as soft.

I'll just have to wait and see the dietitian for what I should have pre-op as Dr Daoud said I could have optifast' date=' optislim, tony fergurson or lite n easy!! As long as there are no carbs. But I think he said lite n easy by mistake. So I'll wait and see.

Soup without any lumps will be a godsend in the first 2 weeks on fluids, especially in the cooler weather, but you will only be able to drink it in small quantities. Handy to freeze in tiny plastic containers which are about 1/4 - 1/2 cup servings. My dietician said at that stage if you could conceivably drink something through a straw you could have it. You sound pretty orgnanised.

Thanks for sharing the incision photo, Jimbo! I have had a few laparoscopic surgeries and it looks similar. Not bad at all.

I hope I don't step on any toes by suggesting this but there is another really good forum at http://m.obesityhelp.com/forums/vsg/a,messageboard/ that I have found that looks really food. I am still pre-op but I find VST to be very repetitive except the Veterans board, this thread, and the Man Room! I think the other website might have more info. There are some great articles in another section of the site too. I'm not suggesting that anyone leave VST but consider adding the other one to your tool belt.

I do get frustrated seeing the same questions over and over but I guess some people don't take the time to search. I certainly hope everyone takes the time to find out what and how much they should be eating, BEFORE getting up on the operating room.

Hey, I'm a newby. In Victoria, 34. Week 1 of Optifast intense phase. Surgery on 24th May.

Diet: some days are harder than others but I've faught: I've sat in a bakery, gone to subway and cooked for my son, quite proud of myself but every day is a challenge not to break it. Mainly cause I'm hungry and also cause of BAD wind pain and severe rumbling in my stomach is like my stomach is trying to eat itself. Can only wish.

Surgery I think my only question for others who have had it is: are u severely nauseous in hospital, if so how long do u think it lasted? Also did anyone have wind pain after from the gas in stomach? If I don't get hungry really after op I think I can do this well. Fingers crossed. Oh and I've lost 2.5 kilos in 5 days on optifast.

Hey I lost 10kg during the two week pre op phase i havnt felt nauseous but I do have little gas discomfort and the incision you feel the most is the top one near rib cage but overall considering they removed 2/3 of my stomach not too bad

Hi Misty, yes I use My Fitness Pal as do many others on this forum and I find it good and it helps keep me on tack especially 9 months put when I am tracking calories and Protein.

Hi Kim, I had no nausea in hospital or later and no gas pain. Walking after surgery is apparently good for that. I love my sleeve and know I could never ave lost these 30kgs without it. Good luck with your pre-op. It sounds like you are doing well. When you do get hungry drunk more Water, but also Ai was allowed unlimited non starchy veges during pre-op phase, so steamed vege or a vege Soup is a good way to feel full until surgery.

Hi Kelli

I take liquid multi Vitamins as I was worried about taking tablets even though I take thyroxine each day. I am also on Nexium daily and have no problems taking my meds.

Have my first post op appt with my surgeon tomorrow so can't wait to see him to see when I can get started on the soft food as 11 days out now.

Went and had a makeover today that has been long overdue and brought some runners and training clothes as keen to kick this to next level' date=' so life's great.

Great to hear from you all - we are on a great site and looking forward to staying in touch throughout our journeys.

In regards to eating out, wouldn't it be great to have something to show the restaurants that we can only eat a very small amount and would love to pay kids prices. Haha - my family every week go to Sunday lunch at a local hotel with a buffet and adults is 25. I don't know how to ask that I will only need a 1/4 cup so can I get a discount.[/quote']

Lol I found this funny as I've thought on special occasions eating ou I'm going to just say 'how much do I have to pay for a bowl of veggies' lol. They may think I'm strange but I don't particularly care, I'm not paying $25 for 3 bites lol. Plus I love there veggies - honey carots and cheesy coliflower. So will saver my 3 or so bites every special occasion. We Can Do This :-)

It is pretty normal to have fears going into this procedure' date=' it is permanant and does take alot of committment, you have to be ready for the change to make the most of it.

Pre-surgery I had alot of fears and aprehension, prepared my self for the worst etc. Mostly I was worried about who I would be after surgery, especially I have only ever known myself as this morbidly obese person. Now, life seems so normal to me, I am the same me, but better, definitely skinnier ( i worked hard to to loose the 68kgs so far), more confident and just happier. But who I am is still the same.

In regards to telling people, it really is your choice who you tell and who you dont. I only told my immediate family, closest friends and my boss before I had surgery. Luckily they were all more than supportive, but aprehensive at the same time. Post surgery I am happy to talk about it and will tell anyone the truth if they ask how I have done it. So far no one has said to my face I cheated (also never heard it said behind my back either). It helps to have people who are supportive of you, especially early on.

Cheated, ha love to see my skinny friends with great motabilisms do this intense Optifast lol. I so know they'd cave. Yes they would burn it off quicker but I'm tough too - carried my own person fat weight for 14 so years, undergoing surgery, recovery and exercise. Ain't no one taking my thunder lol

Hi slowly but certain the scale is starting to move in the right direction again. Losing heaps of inches though because I had to throw out bags if clothes that is now to big. What a great feeling!!! How are you going? ;)

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
