Hi Sara,

I am in Melbourne too, in the outer east. Where are you?

AussieLady Im in the northern suburbs. My surgeon is out your way and many friends so, i find myself over their a lot.

Kelliv

It would be great to see any information about post op diet. I have a good Idea but sometimes I get to the shops and go completely blank as to what will be good. I am still in week one so im still on fluids... But any help is more then welcome.

Sarah

Hi Sarah, are you seeing a dietician to support you through this important transition period. Happy to forward copes of what I was given if it helps but getting individual support from a professional is always wise. Just send me an email request and I will reply. Cheers

What is everyone eating in a typical day? 4 months post op my typical day is:

1/2cup Cereal or one slice toast with small tin baked Beans OR one egg

fruit OR yoghurt for morning and afternoon tea

2 Rice cakes with Protein such as ham or tina, avocado, cheese and salad

Protein and salad or vege for dinner, served on a bread and butter plate with small fork

One slice of fruit of toasted fruit bread sometimes for supper.

When out for the day a tuna sushi roll is my fall back food and I carry small packets of sultanas in my handbag for emergency Snacks.

I will usually have a skim latte for Breakfast, 1/2 slice of toast with lite Peanut Butter for morning tea (these I switch around, I often don't feel like eating first thing in the morning, so a latte starts things off and I can eat a little later on)

lunch is often a small piece of protein like a golf ball size piece of chicken, or a piece of salmon the size of a deck of cards. Sometimes most of a tiny tin of tuna or salmon.

dinner is usually steamed veggies with some protein. Tonight I had some turkey, about the size of a box of sultanas. Sometimes I'll have some potato or pumpkin at some point in the day, but I find carbs hard to digest. Have trouble with rice and Pasta.

I also had 2 rum balls. But I made them with skim sweetened condensed milk, so that's ok, right? They were each the size of a grape.

Some days I can eat more than others. It usually coincides with payday and when I have been to the shops. Lol. Wednesdays I eat very little, because there is no food left.

Congrats Sleever84 = 10kg in two weeks is amazing. Pity about the dumping though - hope you're feeling better today

Today is my first day back at work and feeling so much better. Have my post op appointment with my doctor on Wednesday so looking forward to stepping on the scales without being afraid as it's a difference rather than being frightened

Hi All,

Sleever84 - I liked that for the weight loss, not the dumping. It is pretty normal while you are learning how much your body can handle and what foods sit well.

I wanted to share a video some good friends and workmates of mine did on my journey, the last year and a half. It is long but is the story of my journey.

Hopefully the link works.

Sounds like you're off to a good start. It felt good for me to get back to work and some normality.

Finally got to see your video (for some reason I couldn't play it via my Ipad) and it was well worth the wait. What a fantastic job you have done! You made me feel a bit guilty when I saw you working out so hard on that punch bag! You have inspired me to get back to my walking and when I go back to work I am definitely joining the gym!

You look amazing and you look really happy and healthy!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
