Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I ran out of my nexium at about 2 weeks post op and forgot to get another script when I was at dr's appt so haven't had them for close to 3 weeks and don't think I have acid problem. My stomach grumbles a lot though morning and nights when lying in bed so don't know what this is but this is all I am experiencing

That is my exact concern!! Has anyone heard of that happening - them going in and not doing the op?

Hi Lila, I had read on another forum that a young woman's surgeon refused to operate as her liver wasn't reduced enough. So she woke up with all the pain of surgery but no sleeve. To make matters worse she then got sick (I think phuemonia?) and spent 21 days in hospital. She was devistated. Poor love. Just stick to your program and you will have done everything that was required of you. You can't control much beyond that I'm afraid!

I was finally approved for my super too! I'll hopefully be getting sleeved at the end of September. Should find out tomorrow :-)

Hi puppyphat, Lilly, & others - sorry it seems a few of us are having a rough go of it this week- maybe something in the stars?

Tonight I ate 2.5 serves of lasagne, three mini redskins, three mini time outs and three mini crunchies!!! Oh and dread of all evil- a can of regular Pepsi!!!

I feel so sick in stomach and just awful all round :( it was that binge behaviour just popping up out if the blue!! I just couldn't feel sated- I'm a smoker and chain smoked all night too...

I feel so bad like even if I get the sleeve I'll probably f* it up somehow!!!!

First time in weeks I've felt like this and I even was do good I went for a freezing long swim yesterday.... Jeez I see the psych Thursday so maybe she'll ask me "did you learn from it?" right now I haven't learned jack but maybe I'll feel better tomorrow...

Anyone who says no need for sleeve just diet and exercise has obviously never experienced this insatiable garbage mouth and the guilt that comes with it....

Thanks for letting me vent too, at least it keeps my fingers out if my mouth!!! Lol

Beth

Oh no!!!! I did this so badly leading up to surgery. I had my initial appt with surgeon early july. Didn't start pre op diet until August. The entire month of july I was having "last meals" and I was gorging myself so badly and justifying it because of impending surgery. I know exactly how you feel. I was only after I looked at my empty plates (yes, plural) after a lunch I thought about how many cups of food that was, it was about 8. Then I had a twin pack snickers because I felt sad. It made the pre op diet so much harder because I increased my intake so much, prior, that i felt so hungry when i had to be on liquids. I knew this the whole month of July, and did it anyway.

Thank goodness for the sleeve for saving us from ourselves.

I was sleeved 10th May 2012 & have been lucky enough to lose 30kg so far, I have a question for the longer term sleeves say 3 months sleeved & longer. My question is do you ever get hungry? I'm hungry all of the time infact I've felt hunger since day 1 of the procedure. The upside though is I still get full really easily, the other upside is that my weight loss has now slowed down to about a 1kg loss a fortnight. I only needed to lose 40kg preop so I figure being 10kg out with a very steady loss is a good thing. I now eat whatever I want just small amounts and I've also been on the grog a few times. Life's awesome!!

Maybe this is a part of my problem too? I did about two weeks of last meals and now I am kind of paying the price for it :( hopefully my body will get used to this soon...

Hi everyone- so I woke up today without a headache and not starving (yay). I ended up calling the dietician who has sent me through a full plan without any shakes in it- woot! I have a banana smoothie for brekky, then 100g lean meat and lunch and tea with two cps of veggies and two pieces of fruit through the day. I am so relieved !

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
