I have not had my surgery as of yet but I did go through Chemo when I was 15 and had a centeral line which is kinda like a drain. It didn't hurt when it came out but it feels really weird because you can feel it coming out. Just take a few deep breaths and it will be over in a min. Hang in there

it didn't hurt at all. It felt like the stomach drop you get on a roller coaster. Took 2 seconds. Not a big deal at all.

Doesn't hurt as all, but I did experience some discomfort and funny sensations when taken out, but it was short lived 3sec max.

When I had my lapband removed in January - everyone said it would be bad bla bla.....well it didn't even hurt at all - just like the other ladies said - just a weird sensation like youve been pumped up a bunch of air and they let it out all of a sudden.

I agree with the above posts, and the faster they pull it, the better.

didn't hurt me at all.. I had my drain for 3 days and when she took it out she asked me to take a deep breath and then exhale and just like that.. it was OUT! I will tell you this though.. I was shocked by how long that damn thing is!!!! Good Lord!!! LOL

I made my mom come with me to hold my hand and it wasn't a big deal at all. The skin around it was really burny-itchy so it was just that I felt.

The only thing where I felt even a little discomfort was where a blood clot had formed around the stitch holding the tube in place and the nurse had to kind of break the stitch away. I could hardly even feel the drain moving inside on its way out. I just felt a little moving sensation and then it was out. The drain tube is quite long though. My nurse said that he's always wanted to have one done because he says everyone tells him that it doesn't hurt, it just feels weird. So no worries!

My experience was quite different. I had two drains in me for a week. I'm a tough guy and not squeemish. But I almost passed out cold as he was pulling them out. I was on the verge of fainting. It's good I was sitting down or I would have been on the floor. It was like someone had their hand inside of me. Strange feeling. I was actually on pain killer for a week after the drains were pulled I was so sore. The drains were the worst part of the whole procedure for me. They were uncomfortable while they were in also.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
