Stocking My House And The Perfect Diet

Recommended Posts

HI post-opers. I am 23 days out. I will be picking up my 15 day per-op diet. What should I stock my house with for after the surgery? My wife has to work, so I will be alone during the work week.

Secondly, I would like to hear the ideal diet plans of what you eat to lose over 100-150 pounds for a busy person. I know a bunch of people who have had gastric bypass, but some have not lost more than 50-80 pounds or they lost a ton of weight and gained it back. I am not looking to be Al Rocker. I want to lose my weight and keep it off! Otherwise, Atkins has been my Yo-yo. Basically, how can I follow a fool proof plan to being successful for life. My life is busy and I forget to eat Breakfast and sometimes, lunch and then I am starving and i eat the world. Plus, I am a closet fast food car eater. So I have some adjusting, but I have to change. I just wish there was a fool proof plan for a busy person.

Thirdly, how much time should I take off of work? I can make my schedule, so I sit behind a desk all day, instead of training. Thanks for all your help. I really need some guidance.

Welcome!!

I had SF popsicles, SF Jello, FUZE Slenderize drinks, Crystal Light, Propel Zero Water, chicken/beef broth, New whey Protein shots (42g each)and Protein powder for shakes. I was on a 21 day clear liquid diet after surgery (except he allowed Protein Shakes after 1st week) so I had everything I needed. If you are allowed soft or pureed foods in week 2 pickup some Greek yogurts, cottage cheese, cream Soups, etc. Don't overstock on the stuff though because in the beginning you won't be able to eat much anyway.

Can't help you much on the 100 lb loss yet. I am more or less following Stage 2/3 of the Atkins plan. It has been working for me. Mostly Protein first is the key, so we stay full longer and don't lose muscle mass as we lose weight.

I took off 6 weeks, which is more time then most people because I had short term disability at work so I was able to heal completely, both mentally and physically before I returned. My mind was a fog for the first few weeks after surgery due to not having much food intake and it was great to have a eating/drinking schedule established before returning to the work place.

Good luck and congrats on your surgery!

Thanks so much. I will make a shopping list for my wife. Also, what did you eat in the pre-op stage?

I had two Protein Shakes a day and a small meal (3-4 oz of lean Protein and lots of vegs) for dinner. I used Designer whey chocolate protein powder with Silk Unsweetened Almond Milk for my shakes. Added banana or frozen strawberries for different flavors. For dinner (or sometimes I switched it up and ate my meal for lunch instead) I had fish or lean hamburger patty or chicken breast with steamed vegetables. I also had a huge salad with 3 oz of canadian bacon cut up in it several nights instead of making a dinner. (3 oz of canadian bacon goes further then it sounds.)

While I think it's wise to plan ahead so that you are covered for the early post-op period, don't get hung up on being perfect or following a "diet". This is a total life change and you're going to want to learn new ways of dealing with food so that you can maintain your weight loss in the long term.

Good luck!! :)

Popsicles are a must have. I took Soups that I like and blended them. chicken broth and jell-o. Vitamin Water. Gatorade. Thinking back to those early days I don't really remember eating anything except for soup...I ate Soup for months! Mashed potatoes and soup. That was my life!

Couldnt agree more with Lissa!

Definitely follow your doctors/nutritionists plans especially in the early recovery phase. They can probably help with some meal plans etc.

Also listen to your stomach, it will definitely tell you what is likes and does not like.

I used the first few months to address my unhealthy relationship with food, especially while the sleeve is still quite strict. My body now craves healthy fuel rather than just something to fill it up. But I do allow myself the odd "bad" thing without guilt if I am that way inclined.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
