What brand of the triple chocolate did you try? Thus far I have tried a couple of Protein shots--one grape and one watermelon flavor--and I can't do those. They are so sweet they make me gag--and I generally like sweet stuff. I am not a huge fan of milkshakes, so I am a little concerned about finding some protein product that I can use without gagging.

Do you have a date, yet?

Not a date set in stone yet! I will go to see my surgeon on June 17 and she thinks it wil be 2-3 weeks after that as long as insurance and all goes well! The Protein Powder I got was whey Protein plus elite series I really really can get it down! Better than the other one I tried I can't remember the name of it.

Everyone's taste is different. I do not like the muscle milk. I find the ones in a tub from walmarts to be so gritty, like drinking something with sand in it. My preop diet is for 2wks. and in consists of 4-5 servings of liquid Meal Replacement that may be mixed with Water or skim milk. Oh yeah. They are much better mixed with milk. Water, crystal light, sf Jello. lo sodium broths and sf popsicles. GNC total lean shake 25 is one of the approved supplements on his list so I got vanilla and banana (powder) to try today. I liked both of them. I mixed them with soy milk which is also allowed. I think I will go back and get 2 more flavors to try. They are on sale buy one/ get one 50% off. I ask the sales person if the had any samples and she said no. ask her if I did not like them after I tried them could I bring them back. Of course I laughed just joking. She said "yes we have a 30 day return policy" I have tried the Unjury and like the Vanilla and can drink the Cho. I usually love strawberry, but did not like Unjury strawberry or the chicken Soup. I have a lapband that has slipped so I have been drinking shakes off and on for awhile. My biggest recommendation is to not smell them. Drink from a straw or sip from a cup with a lid. The slimfast lo carbs are good, Boost hi Protein, glucerna hi pro, Atkins (all are RTD} and are pretty good. I have to get lo or no sugar, due to Diabetes. Protein Shots are usually not that bad or at least they are small packages and can be swallowed pretty quick. I am not looking forward to the liquid diet, but I know it will mean time is getting close for my life changing event. My date is July 10th. I love having this forum with people going through the same surgery at about the same time. I enjoy reading about everyone's adventure. We have all been through so much to get here and it should be smooth sailing from here on out. Good luck everyone.

So happy for all of you who are receiving notification that your insurance is paying. I am still a little bit salty mine won't but I am thrilled for the blessing of having enough financial resources of my own to pay for it. Either way, we are all going to do splendidly.

I'm not!

I am surmising that for some people, especially those who are who are self-pay, Mexico is way cheaper and many of the most reputable surgeons there have a huge amount of sleeve experience so the combination of these two factors makes it attractive.

Just a supposition.

Actually I'm self-pay - and my surgeon was $2400, and Ansethisology 1400, and hospital is like 16000 BUT I don't have to pay the hospital till after the surgery, and I qualify for HCAP cause my income is pretty low so they will workout a payment plan with me. This is in Ohio @ Kettering Hospital.

I've been trying to stay on top of a low- carb diet (my choice, my surgeon has not requested anything other than upping my protein)for the last couple of weeks and keep falling off the wagon :-( anyone else struggling? I've got the "one more time" disease .....

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
