Help, Suffering From Head Hunger

Recommended Posts

13 days post op, allowed to have mushies. Waking up hungry, craving eating, just the physical act of eating. I'm happy with my foods: scrambled egg with bacon bits and cheese, refried Beans with salsa and chobani yogurt. Just wishing I didn't experience any hunger or desire to eat. Sleeve feels fine. I eat between 500-600 calories a day, and am getting close to 50 grams of Protein. According to surgeon's office, this is fine for now. I'm just having a hard time letting go.

I know exactly how you feel. I am 14 days out and trying to deal with the change of eating. I have realized I was a recreational eater. A great deal of my life involved eating for fun, relaxation, social bonding...and now I am done in four bites and it feels awkward and Im not sure how to navigate this new way of life. I know it will get better. People further out seem to have adapted and I know we will too.

3 years out and still suffer from head hunger. . . sometimes i give in and have the demon craving and then i'm fine for a week or so until it happens again. . . but we are human and these things will haunt us forever. . .the trick here is to keep so busy that when it hits we can divert our thinking to other things. . . it's really hard, the sleeve is a great tool, now if they could only invent something to kill head hunger and some other negative thinkings huh? hahahaha. . . you never know. . .good luck!

Yes, thinoneday is absolutely correct! I'm 4 months out and experience "head hunger" all the time BUT...it is getting better. Head hunger is something that you will gain more and more control over as time goes by. Just give it time...

I am 7 weeks out and I get head hunger all the time. I am a recreational eater. My mouth needs to constantly be doing something. I started buying sugar free popsicles. The ones from Edys/Dryers are great and only 25 calories. Also I check what time I am eating a meal and tell myself that I will not eat anything for another 4 hours. So even if I get head hunger, I try to tell myself that I can't eat until it is time. It is still a big struggle but I hope these ideas help. When you are further out, you might also try the 100 calorie popcorn bags. Eating one pop corn at a time could take a while.

I just finished telling my husband how thankful I am for sugar-free Popsicles! Sometimes I just need to chew!

It's sad that I'm 4 days out and want to eat real food. I have not and will not but when I see my family eating, I just want to enjoy it too. I've been trying to stay away from them right now.

Hi Angeles' date='

I am 11 days out but not allowed my shies until day 22, what's on your list of mushies[/quote']

I can have scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, oatmeal, and anything puréed. I've also eaten retried Beans, Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, hummus, Peanut Butter, Soup, and pro shakes. The day I had the head hunger I ate 857 calories. Today I only had 591. This is the problem when 'hunger' drives the ship.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
