So, has anyone noticed anything weird with their teeth and gums? I have terrible gums to begin with, but they seem to be receding even more than usual. I'm worried it's some sort of Vitamin deficiency, though I do take my Vitamins. I know I need to go to the dentist, which I haven't done in too long, and am doing that, but does anyone else have anything weird going on with their teeth and/or gums?

Strangest thing, a few weeks after I had my VSG I did too notice my gums were extremely sensitive. I even had to have a root canal and crown placement on one of my teeth!! To this day I always believed it was due from lack of nutrients during the few weeks post op where I couldn't eat properly. It hasn't been the case since, though I am quite diligent with ensuring I'm getting proper and balanced nutrition and taking my supplements.

If you think it's lasting longer than it should, I do suggest contacting your Dentist to find out what the issue might be. I hope they can find out what might be the problem. Xox

Yes, I had some issues as well. About 2 weeks out (2 weeks ago), my gums got to the point they were very sensitive. Even light brushing would cause a good portion of my gums to bleed. I was getting my Protein and Water as I have been good at that since the beginning. The surgeons office say to take Vitamin C, so I did. But I also went to my dentist who said forget the Vitamin c because it's "a waste of time". He also put me on the mouth rinse and an antibiotic. At this point, my gums are much better, but I still have two spots that bleed every time I floss. But at least they are not bleeding when I brush. I still don't know exactly what caused this, but my mouth did improve. They got better while taking the antibiotic and rinse but also as I was eating more solid food.< /p>

I sleep with a bi-pap AND I'm taking Coumadin, so I attributed my sensitive teeth and dry mouth to those two items. I purchased some Biotin mouth gel to help keep my mouth moist at night, plus I brush with special toothpaste for sensitive teeth and gums. I also use bio-tin mouthwash. All of those seem to help with the sensitivity, but it might just be that the sensitivity calmed down once I was back on solid food. I'd never even thought of that connection before. Interesting!

Hi All,

I am about 4 months post op now, and I am very worried about losing my lovely teeth after my WLS.

I have been taking a Multivitamin, but now am concerned that my Calcium levels may not be up to par, so I have added calcium and D3.

Any other preventative measures that anyone knows of to preserve teeth after the surgery?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
