Hair Advice Please! I'm Freaking Out!

Recommended Posts

I just talked to my hairdresser. Haven't had surgery yet, but am concerend with hairloss after. He told me about Aveda Invati. He says your hair can just break off and this helps prevents breakage. I did some research and it seem some people are using this after bariatric surgery. I'm not promising anything, but it may work. Good lucki!

i have along hair it reach my butt ' date=' is it better to make it short cut to save it from loosing

im 6 weeks post operative

i cant tolarate Vitamins and Protein shake[/quote']

You really need to try to get in the Vitamins, I don't mean to worry you but your going to be stressed about more than Hair loss if you can't take them. You can't depend on the food you eat to give you all the nutrients you need. You can get malnutrition. You will struggle with energy, you can get bone deficiency. I would try again! If you can't chew try to swallow the regular ones!

Hair loss is not only due to the nutrition aspect. Many people lose hair for months after other surgeries. It is a common side affect from anesthesia and stress on the body.

i look for other than oral pills forms in the pharmacy idont find!

Have u tried talking to the pharmacist to help u? Or go to Walmart,

Try Vitamin shop online.

For the Protein...my friend buys the Protein mix but doesnt like the taste. She mixes in a lill banana or strawberries . I suggested MIO...squirt a little for the flavor.

Hopefully this helps..

I'm only 3 weeks post op and I'm doing 80-90 g of Protein per day but I'm already noticing more Hair loss than normal. I have really big curly hair and when I wash it now I get two big handfuls of hair. So depressing :( I just wear it up in a bun for now. Hopefully it will grow back soon with tlc.

FWIW, I colored my hair throughout the post-op period -- it was already thinning, I didn't want the color to suck too. The doctor and my hairstylist both said coloring it would have no impact on the loss.

It's actually not an effect of the anesthesia itself, but yes this surgery puts a huge stress on the body. If you really think about it, it's VERY unhealthy to lose a large amount of weight in a month, yet a lot of people do lose it - 20-30 in a month is called starvation! So yes when you stress yourself with the surgery, then take away your ability to get in enough Protein and Vitamins for 6 weeks, your body totally dedicates your nutrition to other aspects of your health. It doesn't really care about your hair at that point! So this is why we lose our hair, for the most part, from this surgery.

I found a few websites last night regarding this and I understand better now. Working hard on getting in quality Protein is going to be the best weapon against it, but with a new sleeve there is only so much you can do. But I think that if you really focus on QUALITY in the long run you'll be okay. I've seen people admit to eating McDonald's one month out from surgery and that's not a good idea if you want to keep your hair or at least minimize the loss!!

This is what I'm talkn about. And scares me. My fiancé loves my hair. It's full and curly. I know you lose some hair after surgery but losing hair to the point where it's too thin, ouch

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
