Grits And Eggs!

Recommended Posts

Wow' date=' thats strict, I wasn't given those directions. I was told the first couple of months to hold off on carbs, fruit is okay as far as I remember. I do admit I did cheat a little by have a piece of rye bread toast with an egg on my second week after surgery but I didn't have any problems and I still lost 4lbs that week. I also had soft noodles (very little maybe two bites) with fish with one dinner and had no issues. It is very difficult not to have some kind of carb in your diet, carbs are important for energy, just not alot with this surgery. I don't see how anyone can make a year with no carbs and still be healthy.[/quote']

Grits are on my three weeks out list. I had a sleeve.

I am so very sorry to hear this.

What treatment did you get at the ER? Did they do a swallow test or anything? How far out are you? Are you better now?

When I ate the grits' date=' it was only a tiny bit before I was full.[/quote']

Leak test, gallbladder test and a big shot of dilaudid. It was extruciating.

Jeni-that's exactly the same diet I was given. I did not blenderize my food-I just ate naturally mushy items. And my list said I could start soft noodles, so I ate lots of Lo Mein--with shrimp! Lol! I'll be six weeks out in a few days & the only food I'm missing are sushi & salad. My nurse told me I can add in my sushi rolls starting next week and salad too if I'm comfy with it. I can't wait & I hope the salad goes down okay because I love salad! :)

now you are lucky to get sushi... I was told three months the same for salad. I told my mom at brunch yesterday that I miss a salad... I got a small bowl of grits and a scrambled egg with cheese. Only ate about tablespoon or two

Actually, I read through my initial paperwork & it said runny grits three or four weeks out. However, my nut definitely said no grits. I guess that explains why people kept saying, "are you sure that grits are not allowed"...lol!

Now' date=' I was told that grits are not allowed because they expand in the stomach.

Yep lilbits, I was told the same thing...i said I saw on this site that people are eating grits, nut says that doesnt mean its got our approval...she says the same ...no grits they will expand in your stomach......

I don't understand how grits will expand in your stomach- you rehydrate them when you cook them in Water and/or milk- they are already expanded before you eat them.

I was told grits were a good choice during the mushy stage, but they were like lead in my stomach. I tried them twice during that time, about a week apart & threw up both times. Now that I'm further out I tried them again on Easter -abt 12 wks out- & they went down fine....a little too easy in fact, and I totally over ate. Thinking grits are a no! But the nut knows best!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
