Pain/recovery From Surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the post-op thread, but here goes. I will hopefully have the surgery sometime in September after my six month insurance-mandated diet. I'm trying to figure out how much time I'll need to plan to take off. I just had gallbladder surgery and if other events had not happened (a relative passed away), I probably would have gone back to work part time after about 5-6 days. Has anyone has both surgeries (gallbladder and VSG)? Is the pain and recovery time comparable? Thanks!

I have had both. Gallbladder removed in 98 and sleeved on 2/7/2012. I recovered quicker from my gallbladder surgery, but I was of course much younger so that could be some of it. I was back to work and school within 5 days for gallbladder. I was much more sore from VSG and went to work part time after 8 days. I have a desk job and sitting in one spot for so many hours was uncomfortable and I could not do the full 8 hours until 2 weeks out. I also had a very substantial hiatal hernial repaired at the same time as my VSG so I am not sure if that added recovery time and pain.

I had both--sleeve in Jan 11 and gallbladder removal in Nov 11. I took 2 weeks off from work with my sleeve but I only took 10 days with gallbladder. The gallbladder hurt more than the sleeve, I don't know why.

I had my gall bladder out the same time as my sleeve. It was the easiest surgery I have ever had.

I have had my appendix out and an ovarian cyst removed before, but they were open surgeries.

With my sleeve I was back to work 7 days after surgery. I am a hairdresser and on my feet all day.

I am glad to hear this! I'm a hairstylist also ( self employed) I had to take off 6 weeks for carpal tunnel surgery about 4 months ago, so I really didn't want/need to take off more than I needed for WLS. I have been getting nervous about only taking 10 days off, but you've made my day reading your post! I feel much better about my 10 days off now :)

Thanks so much for the input! Hopefully, I'll be able to schedule my surgery for the middle of the week and start back part time the following Monday/Tuesday.

@traceyc, sitting at a desk all day is the hardest part for me, too. I wore sweatpants the first week back just because the pressure of the jeans caused a lot of discomfort. And they weren't even hitting any of my incisions!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
