I now have my date scheduled with Dr Aceves- April 20th, woooo!

But my husband and I are having a bit of a debate. I live near Tucson, AZ - and AAA maps tells me that I can drive from here to Mexicali in 4.5hours. If we decide to fly instead, it's a 60 minute commute to Tucson airport, then around 5 hours to get from Tucson to San Diego (since there always seems to be a layover in LA or PHX or whatever), then another 2 hour drive from San Diego to Mexicali. Same for the way back. So I'm seriously considering just driving.

The question is for you post op people - how well did you handle driving at 5 days post op? If needed, we could hang out in Mexicali another day after hospital release (go back to the hotel!). That being said, I would be the driver for the entire distance - my companion doesn't have a driver's license...why is it so many people that live in big cities don't have driver's licenses?!? lol

Any thoughts are appreciated.

My experience was I was able to drive 20 minutes to the store 3 dpo but I was really really tired. My reaction time was really slow and what saved me is that I was on a country road rather than up in DC where I live. It's now 5 dpo and I can drive longer distances but it really tires me. I'm still on medication for pain but only take it 2x a day.

I think you could, but it would be very risky.

Is it possible for him to get his license before your surgery date? Even a permit would allow him to drive as long as a licensed driver was in the car with him.

Not possible - he's a Canadian foreign national, they have a rather convoluted permit process, and their permits aren't valid for use for driving in the US - we had discussed it in-depth at one point.

He's not a resident of the US, he just visits from Canada ocasionally, so that makes the rules complex. I called my car insurance for giggles - they wouldn't cover him to drive my car (with a permit or an actual license, either way) and I would be liable if anything interesting happened.

So I guess that means the only option is to fly. Depressing.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
