Popcorn ?

Recommended Posts

Whether it's an ok snack depends on how far post-op you are. Some here seem to eat it with no issues, while others (like me) don't do popcorn much or at all. I've had popcorn twice since surgery without issue. It's just not one of my favorite Snacks. Of course, I'm only 5 months out, so I'm still working on getting in all my Protein and veggies every day. I'd rather have cheese right now.

I wouldn't do it anywhere near the first two months post op. You definitely don't want to screw with that staple line.

Pre-op I couldn't care less about popcorn. Now it's my favorite snack. Everyone's doc has different advice on this one, so maybe check with your surgeon. Some folks are told not to eat it for six months, some are never warned about it at all.

My only warning would be that you should measure portions accordingly. I can only eat one egg if I'm eating regular food but I can eat 2-3 cups of popcorn. I could probably eat more, but once I've had that much I'm not really in the mood for popcorn anymore. It is a trigger food for me, however. If I have it one night, I want it every night. I have to budget it in and only indulge once a week or I have a problem. I also prefer to pop my own as I can not only control how much salt/butter are used but it tastes better. I find that I way overdo it on the bagged junk but if I make my own it tastes better and I'm satisfied faster.

My downfall was popcorn before my surgery. I am 9 weeks out and still can't eat bread so I would think I will not be allowed popcorn for awhile. Because of the swelling I was told. Too easy to get stuck. That's really the only hing I miss. DOn't miss bread or Pasta at all. I hate whole wheat pasta and just won't eat it!

I'm 11 weeks out and I have no problems with popcorn. Not a regular snack, but I certainly have to have some at the movies! I tried eating it around week 7 and that was too premature -- I ate a handful and regretted it for about an hour.

I found a pre-popped popcorn at Sunflower Market that only has 8 carbs/2 cups. It is great and satisfying snack. I limit myself to once a week. I never had any popcorn until I was 7-8 months out. I bought some at a movie one night and found out it went down way to easy. Kathe

What happened when you tried it? I'm afraid to try!

I am 12 weeks out and have had popcorn 3 times. I have not had any difficulty but I chew it very well and don't stuff handfulls in my mouth like I did before surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
