Where Are You 200+Er's?

Recommended Posts

I have 200 pounds to lose. I started out at 358 and I think I'm around 235 now. We had a house fire and I don't have my scale anymore. My surgery was supposed to be this week but I pushed it out a month in hopes that the stress level would not be as great and boy am I glad that I did that. It has been an emotional roller coaster since the fire with alot more downs then ups. Things are getting better now and I am looking forward to getting back on track for this journey. My new date is March 19th and I can hardly wait. I will continue to check this thread as you are all an inspiration to what is ahead. Thank you!

Oh Just one question for ya'll how do you know if you need to buy a second seat on the plane? I am kinda horrified of that situation but I also do not have money to throw away!

Frpringle-I'm so glad you found us. You are doing so fabulous. You are especially an inspiration to me because I think you are the only person I have seen who started with a BMI as high as mine! And look at how you are doing. 100lbs by 3 months! I got sleeved the week after you (11/14). I have lost about 75lbs (getting weighed today) and hope to hit 100# by my 5 month. It is amazing the self control you seem to have and what you are doing sure seems to be working for you. Do you even eat the chicken for Breakfast? I occasionally eat leftovers for Breakfast. I have found that my taste buds don't seem to differentiate between meals anymore. They all seem interchangeable. Plus I don't eat my first meal until 10:00 so that my eating schedule is 10-2-6 so that I can have dinner the same time as my family.

Do you exercise? I have just started a walking program my surgeon put me on. But I have to say I have taken more days off than I have actually walked. I know a lot of people here do the gym and stuff, but I am still too heavy to even think of doing anything besides walking.

I so know what you mean about not seeing any difference-i have said that here many times. When you have as much to lose as we do even 100# barely makes a noticeable difference. At least you are getting to wear a new size in pants! I wear those old lady black stretch ones that seem to fit every weight I ever am! It's also hard because I am 6' tall. I finally found that Woman Within had tall jeans up to a size 44T. One style. So I ordered a 40T and was so excited when I was able to pull them up and button them. But then I looked at the legs and they could have held an additional leg!! I don't know if they were "wide" leg pants or if my hips size is WAYYY out of proportion to my thighs, but I guess I'll have to wait until I go down a few more sizes to get a pair of jeans. I haven't worn jeans in about 12 years so that is one of the first things I am looking forward to. Even if they are a size 38!!

I havent gotten myself on a set exercise routine just because I'm usually very busy. I try to make sure I'm doing extra while I'm out running around though, like taking the stairs and parking further away from the buildings, etc. I'm doing school full-time and I know that's not an excuse for not exercising, but it's been very hard to get into the routine. Yeah, I eat chicken for breakfast lol. I don't change it up very much, just because I know it works for me and I don't feel sick after. It's boring, lol but I find that I don't get excited about food very much anymore, so eating boring doesn't bother me.

I was able to out on a pair of kakis today that I haven't been able to wear for almost 4 years now, and it felt great. I finally let my husband take a "before and after 100lbs down" picture today. I'll have to post it when I get a chance.

It sounds like you are doing amazing too! I just can't believe how much rings are changing and how fast!

Depends on who you are flying on...however...if you can sit in a standard 17" seat without major overflow you will be fine...if there is overflow then either try and get a seat that has noone right next to you.

This always makes me nervous when I fly. I've never had to purchase 2 seats and I've always flown Delta or US Air. I go through a ritual of selecting seats. Some have more leg room. The last time I flew was in August to Los Angeles from NC. My sister and I were traveling together, so we left our shared armrest up to give me more room (she's an average size and doesn't have to worry). But I've flown with strangers and not had a problem with the armrest down. Just wasn't as comfortable.

I have always needed a seatbelt extender. I can't WAIT for that NSV!

I have just received my membership card to this club at 290. I didn't think it was possible but 9 weeks on I finally made it!

I reached my 3 week out mark yesterday. I've lost 22.2 lbs since surgery and 54 including my 6 month pre op diet. :) I've still got a long way to go, but I renewed my gym membership and they have a kids club I can take my son to on the weekend.

I did have a weird day on Thursday. I had been getting weird twinges in my legs and since I know I'm still in the risky time frame for blood clots, I started having a panic attack which I am not prone to. But I went to the ER. They did ultrasounds of my legs. No blood clots, but I was a little dehydrated, low blood sugar and the ER Dr. said low caloric intake contributed. I told him I couldn't really have carbs and even though I need 800 calories I've only been getting between 500-600 calories because I'm on all liquids.

He told me to go to Roberto's (local Mexican food chain) and get some refried Beans with cheese and yes, they are made with lard and eat some until I can't eat anymore. So I did. I feel 100% better than I did on Thursday. I'm so glad I'm on soft foods now.

Love Roberto's!!! And one chicken taco does the trick when you are back on regular foods!

Roberto's is about the only place I can still go out to eat. (I'm guessing it's the same one-but maybe not) I usually get a beef tostada and eat the toppings-leave the tortilla-I can only eat half. Or mine has a carne asada taco ($2) that is 2 unfried corn tortillas with about 6oz! of carne asada and then pico de gallo. That's it. Easily 2 meals!!!

Mexican food has been a real life saver on my plan. Lot's of flavor and texture. And much can be made low fat or fat free!!

I'm so glad someone else knows Robertos. :) I've been eating refried Beans for dinner since Thursday night. Today for lunch I did make some chicken salad with mayo.

I'll be honest. Mayo is the one food I won't go low fat or non fat on. That's just plain gross. I'd rather not eat food with mayo than go low fat.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
