Blue Cross Blue Shield Vs United Health Care

Recommended Posts

So my story in a nut shell is, I had the band done in 09 while i was with Blue Cross. It took a short amount of time to get approved, like less then a month. I lost about 35 pounds. Then gained it all back by the first year in a half. Now im with United Health Care and im waiting for them to approve me to change the band to the sleeve. The reason being is that my band slipped and the adjustments didnt work because of that.

so i was wondering if you know anyone who has my current insurance and is awaiting approval for the surgery, or was waiting.. and how long did they wait for? did they have to pay a certain amount? did they have to take classes before surgery?? any info you can share will be greatly appreciated :)

thanks

Hi Luisa,

I have United Healthcare Choice Plus. My approval was really easy. I went to all the required appts and my doctors submitted my paperwork on 11/17. I just got approved yesterday.

I started this journey in the middle of November, so it didn't take that long. They didn't require any supervised diet or anything.

Hope this helps, good luck on your journey :)

have you checked to see if your insurance will pay for a second bariatric surgery? Many only allow one in a lifetime, even if its with another provider. Hope yours sees that yours is necessary!

I hope they do.. My doctor said that it's more of a yes then no, but u never know. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.. I see there's just two days left for your surgery , that's great. Good luck and I wish you the best!!

I had UHC and the policy that I had covered two bariatric surgeries in your lifetime. You may want to call your coordinator to get the specifics. UHC (to me) is one of the fastest in getting approved. I now have AVMED, which I called and asked if I have any issues, complications if it would be covered. They stated yes that it would be. Good luck on your journey!!! Keep us updated.

:)

Deb

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
