Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

Recommended Posts

I am 5'2 and will be having my surgery on 05/21. Once you guys got your date for surgery, was it hard for you to stop thinking about it 24/7???? Also, did you pig out before you had to start the 2 week liquid diet (if you had to do that)? I have to start my diet on the 9th of May and my SO says well lets just pig out for the next month...ummmm of course he weights a buck O 5 wet....so he can do that...

the idea sounds tempting but I just dont feel right about it...

Hi! I think I am the anomaly, but i didn't have to do a 2 week liquid diet. I had a 24 hour one, then a week post op. But I did have to lose 10% before they would even book my date, so I had to have good eating habits before that. Anyhow I didn't do a food funeral. I had a last meal, because it was literally the last meal I ate before the surgery, and nothing appealed to me other than what I should have had. Funny how that is, eh? Now at 5 weeks out, I'm starting to be able to eat a little more, but not a lot, and everything is good. If I have a rare craving I can pretty much have anything if I an careful to chew, so I don't feel I am missing anything. So my suggestion is to not go crazy, because I think that mind frame will hurt you. it's like you're mourning your old life, but think of what those old habits did to you.... And like others have said it won't be long until you can eat like you want to again, if you want the same stuff. (it's so true that your tastes will change.) anyhow sorry if this is not what you were looking for...

good luck!

thanks ladies!!! I am going to do my best to get my mind off of this and not pig out.

Its easy though because my mother is staying with us and she just had the gastric bypass and seeing her eat like a spoonful and get full is crazy to me. But she has been helping me stay on path. She did also say that her taste buds have completely changed.

Hi. I'm 5ft 1.5 inches (I refuse to not count that half inch). I have not been sleeved. I currently have the lapband, but I am in the process of trying for approval to revised to the sleeve. My highest weight was 254. I got down to 169 before my lapband basically stopped helping. I maintained 172 for two years but have regained to 195... Hope to hear something soon from insurance to know where I stand.

I'm 5.2 an I'm waiting for approval. I got denied at first so my surgeon is appealing it.

If you don't mind me asking, why were you denied? I'm afraid of the same thing. I have HBP, diabetes, asthma & as of last night sleep apnea...ugh!

I got denied me because my high blood pressure and cholesterol we're under control, but they are only under control because of meds. I have a 40 BMI, high BP, high cholesterol, acid reflux and borderline diabetes, which are all comoribidities. So my surgeon doesn't know why they denied but she sent In an appeal about 6 weeks ago and hopefully I will hear soon. I have a government insurance and they are always picky but she said she has never lost an appeal.

Wow...I'm sorry! I have HBP, diabetes & (as of last night) sleep apnea. I hope that my insurance doesn't deny me. I'm really concerned now.

I hope that everything works out for you!!! These insurance companies are ridiculous. :(

I'm 5'1 AND A HALF smile.png That half-inch is very important to me...I'm 4.5 months post-op and down 63 lbs; from 206 lbs to 142.6!

Congrats on the significant loss thus far! I am encouraged!

I am pre-op -- heading to Mexico, probably in June. I am 5'2" and appreciate that this sub-forum exists.

I went to my 1st steps class on April 9, now I'm waiting for my Psych eval which is May 14th. In the mean time, I'm researching Proteins and how to get these in after surgery. I also was told that instead of a two week liquid pre-op diet, I only have 5 days. That's much better so I guess I'll be thankful for that. I'm getting nervous about the surgery and the outcome, but ready to move forward with my life.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
