Gastric Sleeve Surgery Date Set.....low Bmi

First I just want to tell everyone how helpful this site, forum, blog is to those of us that are just finding it. I am a self pay, and having surgery with Dr. Alvarez on March 13th....I'm so excited! I do have a low BMI and knew insurance would never pay for me to have, what I'm considering to be (or at least hoping) a life changing choice. I have about 55 - 60 lbs to lose, but want to do this before I have 100 to lose. I have read so many times on here that the only wish would be to have had the surgery sooner. I have fought the yo-yo diets for years and I'm just ready to not have that worry on my mind 24/7. As i am preparing mentally for my surgery I often wonder what life will feel like on the other side, or "loser bench" as its called. I would love to hear input from anyone with a low bmi and what your surgery experience has been. Have you lost what you were hoping to lose. Again, I want to tell you all thank you so much. My husband is the ONLY person that knows about the planned surgery. The only reason I'm not telling anyone is because I have lost the weight so many times only to put it plus an extra 5 so many times. I don't want to feel like a failure once again. This site is my support and salvation right now....THANK YOU!!!!

Only 8 days to go...sleeve date 6/30 with Dr. Alvarez......so excited & nervous!

My surgery will be on 7/19 with dr. Lopez in puerto vallarta. I do have a low bmi of 31-32, and only 60 lbs to lose. Anybody here who have the situation?

Yes, low bmi also. I currently weigh 201 and would like to weigh 130-140. My surgery is scheduled 6/30/12 with Dr. Alvarez.

Yes, I weigh about 200, but am only 5'3.

Yes, I'm looking forward to being under 150 pounds in a few months, hope that goal isn't too aggressive! I am worried a bit about my hair loss, recently had a baby 3/25 and my edges already feel out in two spots from my c-section, I'm hoping for minimal to no hair loss during this sleeve recovery!

I'm a low bmi at around 35. Surgery scheduled next week in the Dominican republic. I'm 5'4" and 197 pounds. No going back...I'm ready for his. Tired of the constant up and downs & the daily struggle with self esteem.

$8,500 is the cost. I have family in DR so I'm staying with them.

Hey patty,

We need to keep each other updated... We r sleeve sisters :)

Good luck to you!!!

Wow! As a cash-pay I love Dr. Kelly's package price. Is that 5500 for a band revision to sleeve or just the sleeve? I think my insurance will pay for removal of my band because my esphagus is very' date=' very stretched. I am leaning towards getting my band out "at home in the US", waiting 4-6 months for my esophasus to continue healing and then go to Tujuana and Dr. Kelly. I'm getting an upper GI and report in mid-july so I'll ask for a copy of the photos and report and then mail copies or email copies to Dr. Kelly via Omar. Thank you for sharing your info so freely with me! Sara[/quote']

Sorry, I lost track of this topic.

The $5500 I paid was just for the sleeve. I have no idea what the difference would be with a revision. Email Omar, you will not get any pressure ever with him.

Only 4 more days to go.......experiencing a sense of calm today. Seems more like reality, my package via UPS of Ujury protein products arrived today. I plan to start packing tomorrow, my flight for TX leaves early Friday.

I'm excited for you! Please let us know how it goes. I am scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Alvarez, if my insurer denies me.

I was a low bmi too. Sleeved 4/9 at 201. Currently 173. Halfway to goal now. Seems to be slow going.

Left the bank a few hours ago with the cashiers check for my remaining balance, all of a sudden my emotions are all over the place, doubt that I can make my weight lost goal with yet another failed attempt, questioning the cost & generally just a little nervous about the life changing decision.....this concerns never seemed so strong or vivid until last night sometime....perhaps its because my flight leaves tomorrow morning @ 7am.
