No Full Feeling after Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am just starting soft mushy foods like eggs, cottage cheese etc. I used to eat and get a feeling in my stomach that I was full but now I don't. I don't even have a satisfied feeling. I don't feel pressure or any sensation at all. I do, however, feel pressure in the epigastric region and that's how I have been judging that I am full. Is this normal? Should I just measure food and stop once it's gone until I get my feeling back?

That may be an excellent idea, at least until you can start feeling the satisfied feeling. It WILL happen, and probably when you least want it to happen. :)

I struggled with this, too, until about 6 weeks out. It defiinitely gets better. In the meantime, my tips are the ones you hear so often - eat very, very, very slowly. "Full" takes some time to register, so if you're eating with any rapidity, you'll likely become over-full suddenly. I also measured based on the volume I was currently tolerating. Early on, 2 tablespoons was my standard measurement for mushies and about 1oz for solids. That increased little by little. I'm at 7 weeks now and can tolerate about 2-3 oz of meats, 6-8 oz of mushies like yogurt or Soup. But still only with a very careful watch on eating slowly and analyzing how I feel. And even tonight I mixed it up, with 1 oz of cheese, 1/2 cup of Soup, and some Protein puffs and suddenly realized I had mindlessly taken two bites too many. It doesn't happen as often these day, but it can still happen if I'm not being mindful.

Hope this helps. Here's wishing you much luck and patience and you adjust. :)

 Hi Lissa,

I have read many many posts since i've started my journey waiting for my WLS on 12/6/11 - You seem to be one in the "know" giving many good responses about pre-op & post-op, and regular replies involving computer settings, blogs, tickers et al :hail:

Here's my question :typing: .I know when I hit "quote" I will get the previous post in my new post that i'm making. (did I say that right?) I only want to take a section from the prior post and quote that into my new post. how do I do that? :help:

PS - if you haven't noticed I am addicted to these emoticons :hurray: kathy wls 12/6/11

I love the emoticons, too! :) I tend to use lots of smilies myself. I don't know about being in the "know" around here, but I try to help where I can. I just hit the quote button for your post and deleted part of it, so that I'm only quoting the part I want to answer.

Does that help you?

Oh, and I'm NOT the tech person. I keep referring people to the ticker post that Lil Miss Diva made because I have to look at it regularly when I update my own signature! :) My claim is that I had kids to handle technical stuff like VCRs, DVD Players, and smart phones! :)

Good luck!

Okay, I'm having a DUH moment. To get a partial quote, you must be sure not to delete the open "

" tag and that there is a closing "
" tag at the end. The quotation marks are not needed, I used them to try to make sure that I do NOT create a quote box in this post. I hope that works! :smile1:

It didn't work the first time. shucks, let me try again.

Thank you so much for posting about this. I am 4 weeks out and have been having a hard time ever feeling like I am satisfied. I know I am full with the feeling at the top that feels constricted and as if I can not eat any more. I will try the suggestions of trying to eat very slow and monitor. I know it takes 20 minutes to register in the stomach that you are full. I am just glad to know I am not the only one who is feeling this way. Does it help to just take little bits at a time so you are not looking at a lot of food not eaten? if you have anymore insite on this or something else comes up please share. I would love to hear more. Thank you so much

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
