Need Suggestions For Protein Sources Other Than Protein Powder

I am one week post-op and no significant problems. I have been using Syntrax protein powders (Fuzzy Naval, Chocolate Truffle, Vanilla, and Chicken Broth) mixed with a high protein milk as my protein source. Except for the chicken soup, all the protein powders are sweet. I am looking for suggestions for protein sources that are not sweet. I still have a week left of liquids only. Suggestions?

unjury has an unflavored one they you can just add to the soups you are already eating and they have a chicken flavored one too. i havent tried them, but ive heard they are okay. If you are on full liquids, greek yogurt is an awesome source of protein. i only drink one shake a day and eat the greek yogurt for the rest of my protein. its not really sweet and you can kind of dress it up any way you want.

i fully understand. i hate the protein drinks with the exception of chike chocolate. i just tried it this morinng hot and it was really good. im supposed to be on another week of full liquids but ive tried introducing some thin pureed soups into my diet and im tolerating them pretty well. yesterday i ate about 10 baby spoons of pureed bean soup. i was full!beans are a real good source of protein as well. the liquid phase is really hard because you want to eat other things. my biggest thing is i want meat so bad! Id love to have some chicken salad or tuna fish! but i know i have to wait another week for that.

I tried some strained cream of mushroom soup yesterday and it was soooo good. The pureed bean soup sounds like something I'd like. Thanks!

unjury has a chicken broth (ok they sell it as soup but there are no noodles so more like broth) but it tastes just like lipton cup of soup. I LIVED on it the first couple of months as the sweet shakes made me gag. I tried all kinds of brands and none of the milk based sweet shakes were tolerable. I get my Protein from food now.

I got an email from Unjury the other day saying they had a sample pack now. I did not care for the unflavored one. I found it did not mix in well.

Good luck!

My NUT recommended adding dry skim milk powder to things to up the protein content. Recently I've been making swiss miss diet cocoa with 10 oz of hot water, 1/3 cup of dry skim milk, and some unsweetened protein powder, with some splenda. VERY rich hot cocoa flavor with a decent protein content.

I'm 1 week out and also am having a problem with this- I have found that EGG drop soup is not only satisfying but really good source of protein. My doc also said that was a great protein choice. I can only have in small increments but it is worth a shot- I don't have a problem with the pre-made drinks except for now they are a bit sweeter and too much to drink at once- I'm thinking of making a "shake" freezing it in ice cube trays and then using them like popcicles... just for variety-

I tried SF pudding but that didnt go well- too thick I think. But I am going to try some smashed up sweet potatoes tomorrow- and hopefully incorporate cottage cheese as well. I think this next week the protein will be a little better than this last week.

I am 5 days post-op and also am not into the protein drinks. Today I made a Tuna melt for lunch. I also had blended lunch meat ham and cottage cheese. I just made sweet potato soup to eat for tomorrow. I have been using cottage cheese and greek yogurt as my protein source and adding unsweetened soy milk to thin things. Its been great! Also in the works for tomorrow is some thanksgiving soup with stuffing & turkey lunch meat. Be creative, you can have meat if you want!
