amberj got a reaction from VSGRachel in No Carb Protein Bread!Okay so when i was browsing around on pinterest i came across this recipe for a bread substitute. I made it last night and i must say I thought it was delicious. Whats even better is I am doing lilmissdiva's boot camp this week and I can eat this because it is only made with eggs cream of tartar and cream cheese ( or cottage cheese). It is delicious and very very easy to make! I was craving something sweet last night so I took a half of one and put some sugar free syrup on it. It literally tasted like a pancake! If you are missing bread and dont want to eat all of the carbs, this is a perfect substitute. best part of it is that it is extra protein!
I used fat free cream cheese
***** make sure that the peaks on the meringue are extra firm
The recipe says it makes 10, but it made 6 when I did it. This is the breakdown for each one
Generic - Egg, 3 large egg 210 3 15 18 Adams - Cream of Tartar, 1/4 tsp 0 0 0 0 Philadelphia - Fat Free Cream Cheese, 1.5 ounce (28 g) 45 3 0 6 Add Ingredient
Total: 255 6 15 24 Per Serving: 43 1 3 4
About This Recipe
"These are a delicious home-made bread replacement that are practically carb free and very high in Protein. They are just like heaven so I call them clouds. Compliments of Kristin Patterson."
Ingredients
3 eggs, separated
3 tablespoons whole milk cottage cheese or 3 tablespoons cream cheese
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 (1 g) packet artificial sweetener
Directions
Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
Separate the eggs very carefully, there must be no yolk in the white.
In one bowl, mix together the egg yolks, the 3 T. of Cottage Cheese OR Cream Cheese and the one packet of Sweetener until smooth.
In the other bowl add 1/4 teaspoon of Cream of Tartar to the whites and beat the whites on high speed until they are fluffy and form nice peaks.
Very carefully fold the egg yolk mixture into the egg whites until mixed, but try and not break down the fluffiness of the egg whites too much.
Spray two cookie sheets with Pam or other fat-free cooking spray.
With a large spoon, "scoop" the mixture into 10 even rounds on the sheets (about the size of the top-half of the McDonalds hamburger bun; roughly 3/4 inch thick and 4 to 5 inches across).
Bake on the middle rack. Here is when you have to watch them, because the cooking time the same on any two batches. It is somewhere around 1/2 hour, but it could be less or more. You just need to watch them until them become nice and golden brown (again, the color of a McDonalds bun).
Remove from the pans and cool on a rack or cutting board.
While warm they are crumbly and similar to cooked meringue - but don't let this fool you! Once completely cool, seal them in a ziplock storage baggie or a tupperware over night. They will totally change their consistency, to something much more like bread - a softer texture that is nice and chewy. If you do not like softer chewy bread, then eat them as they are, nice and crisp.
Since the sides that were facing the pan are perfectly flat, you use these to spread things on, or make sandwiches, or even as a burger bun! The choice is up to you, and you will be quite amazed at how much like a bun these really are!

amberj reacted to Elyse in Just A Little Inspiration From Me To You....Hi Everyone,
I had my follow-up appointment with my surgeon today. I had written on the forums a little while ago asking advice for this horrible 4 week stall I have been on. For those of you who dont know me a little bit of background for you:
I was sleeved January 25th, 2011. At my highest weight I weighed 304. I am only 5 ft 4. Today at almost 18 months post-op I weighed 173.5! 130 lbs gone forever! I have struggled throughout my journey but can honestly say that I have not one single regret! My blood work all came back perfect. Pre-op I had high cholesterol, I was on medicine for type II diabetes, I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 15 and hardly ever had a period. I also suffered from bad sleep apnea. At age 22, I was a wreck. Now I take no prescription medication, I have had a regular period AND ovulated every month for the past year. I have never felt so good. I was also cleared to try and become pregnant. Although my goal weight is 145# my surgeon told me that I was healthy enough to start trying now. This is a HUGE NSV for me! I have always wanted children and pre-op was told that my chances of having children was slim to none. I probably will not be having children for at least another year ( Im a nursing student and have enough on my plate!) but nevertheless this was wonderful news for me.
Basically, I want to be an inspiration for others. Those who havent been sleeved yet, I know how nerve wrecking and hard it can be, as well as the flood of emotions you feel. You are making a huge commitment to your life. But I can promise you that you will not regret your decision. It takes a leap of faith and a great deal of courage to go through weight loss surgery but the benefits are neverending.
To those that have already been sleeved, whether your 2 days post-op or 2 years post-op I encourage you to enjoy your journey. Be patient and take it one day at a time. I have been notorious for getting bent out of shape when the scale isnt moving the way I want it. It is important to enjoy yourself at every weight and enjoy watching yourself become a healthier, happier you. This website is full of such wonderful people with a plethora of great knowledge. I feel blessed to be a part of such a great community.
Good luck to all of you!

amberj got a reaction from AdeptDreamer in Chickening Out!In my opinion, the band is more to deal with. You have to worry about adjustments and slipping. I personally know 2 people who have the band and wish they would've went another route. I started with wanting the band but the more research that I did the more I realized that it just want right for me. I didn't want to have to deal with the maintenance of it. I have 2 kids and was in college. i couldn't be bothered with that. and i honestly don't like the idea of something being left inside me. to address what your mother said about all the kinks being worked out, there is always something that could possibly go wrong. no device is 100% fail free. . research research and research some more and then make your decision on what is best for you and your lifestyle.

amberj got a reaction from NicholePerlatti in To Newbies Getting Vsg, What Is A Tip That You Can Give That Helped You The Most?Im not necessarily a vet but ill put in my opinion anyways. I honestly think that most important tip is understanding its purpose. I went in thinking I was getting this and i was just going to drop all this weight and it would easy. I thought that I would always feel full and that I wouldn't want to eat anything ever again. I thought I would never have an urge for ice cream of candy. But obviously I was wrong. I didn't fully understand what I was getting myself into. And I wasn't mentally prepared for all the changes that were going to take place. I haven't lost as many as some in my 6 months post surgery (around 70 lbs) but i think i have done okay. I am sure that i could have lost more if I didnt sabotage myself on purpose. I went though all kinds of stages. I felt I wasn't worthy of being small or that it was tearing my family apart because each time I said that I lost some weight it would start a fight because he assumes I am going to leave him. I lost a lot of hair and have really saggy arms now. that in itself took a toll on me. I was started to hate myself so like always, i turned to food. I am finally coming to terms with my inner issues and making a change because i did this for my children. my mind still had control over my plate making too, i always put too much and cant eat it all. so all in all, what i am getting at is prepare your mind for the changes because they happen very fast and it doesn't have the time to catch up. I wish you the very best of luck with your journey. and always remember that you are worth this and your deserve to succeed!

amberj reacted to Musharooni in To Newbies Getting Vsg, What Is A Tip That You Can Give That Helped You The Most?I am hardly a vet, but I think the best advice is something I've seen on here many times before--this is a journey, not a race. Take your time, follow the instructions given by your NUT and your Surgeon and take it day-by-day, hour-by-hour, and minute-by-minute.
-
amberj reacted to MamaT in Saying Goodbye To My ScaleSo I went & saw my surgeon today- he asked me how often I weigh myself-- about every 8 days or so. He then preceded to say that weighing yourself weekly can hurt your loss.
It made complete sense to me. He said as you lose weight your clothes will start falling off, dropping sizes and so on. But because our weight loss will fluctuate and hit stalls, by looking at the scale weekly, the numbers start to dictate how I feel, not the WAY I feel. He said that I could have a great week, staying on track , exercising, the whole bit... And I may feel amazing and my clothes feel loose and I feel great, but if step on the scale and only see a 1 lb loss for that week, then I'll get upset and think I'm not doing well.
I've fallen into that trap before.. I can remember years ago walking into a WW meeting feeling great, only to see I lost no weight that week, and leaving and driving straight to McD's.
So goodby scale, I'll visit you once a month when my hubby takes you out of hiding.

amberj got a reaction from Rico in Question Of The Day Tuesdaymy biggest change is that i play with my kids more now. i can get on the floor and roll around with them and i can go outside and draw with chalk with my 4 year old. i actually enjoy my time with them instead of just wanting to go back inside and eat some chips and candy.

I had to do that today because i felt like i wasn't getting anywhere.i know 57 pounds is a lot but i couldn't see it. visuals help. think positive and be proud. you're doing great!

I don't necessarily care if someone has a problem with it because after all, it is my body and my heath that's at risk. I've had nothing but good responses, everyone understands and is supportive for the most part. my fiance is a little worried about it and doesn't want me to have it done but oh well, i doing it anyways. I say BE PROUD! It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. this is for you, don't let negativity ruin it for you. own it and love it. if you are anything like me, this is the best decision you ever made for your health! you might even inspire someone else to look into it when all other options have failed. good luck with everything

amberj got a reaction from AllForMy4 in insurance approvalIt took a week for me to get approved once it was submitted. I got approved on the 28th of october i had another appointment with my dr to discuss surgery dates on the 7th and i have my surgery on the 16th. i think it all depends on the drs schedule as far as a date after approval.
sidenote:the dr has to give the insurance company a date so if you call and they ask are you scheduled on such and such date and you were like me and didnt have any idea what they were talking about, this is why. but it doesnt mean that when itll be on. good luck!! hope approval is fast!
