Nervous about psych clearance....having it today!

I'm going to the psychologist for the first part of my psych exam to get approval for surgery. For some reason I am so nervous!!!

I've seen a therapist so I kind of know how this sort of thing works - except I have to fill out a questionnaire for the first two hours that I am there. Hopefully it all goes smoothly!

Maybe it's more excitement than anything - I can't wait for my new life!:)

I was nervous for mine too but it went so great. The Dr. was very nice and I actually found out I have bipolar disorder. We don't know why I have it it could be from untreated depression and/or my sleep apnea going untreated. I didn't have to do any type of testing or anything. Usually as long as you know what your getting urself into by having the surgery the doc is fine with clearing you.

You are well on your way to a new you. Good Luck!

I was nervous too. I'd never been to any kind of therapy - closest thing was a few years in overeaters anonymous. It was an hour filling out a three page finish the sentence kind of thing and then a little over an hour with the Dr. where I told him "my story" and he confirmed that I have a "thing" with sugar and I needed to work it out. I sure wish he'd had some advice for working it out but I guess that would be another appointment! I don't have the results yet but on the spot I asked him if I was crazy and he said only as the rest of us so I figure it'll be ok!

Let me tell you I was scared to death I filled out his questionnaire prior to appt..If I can pass any1 can lol Good luck I ws nervous it took him a week to clear me and it was at the end of the day of full preop cardiologist pulmonologist xray nutritionist it was crazy so I was off the wall!

i know most people are nervous, theres an expression, 1/2 the people go to therapy, the other 1/2 should  Don't worry about going, it will be over before you know it... no prob - kathy

I think we put ourselves in a tizzy wanting this and having someone judge us an our future depends on one appt its scarey you will be fine! good luck

  • 1 month later...

I go to psych Jan the 3rd... I know I suffer from depression, but I'm afraid of talking about the past and all that... What I will say I will visit him/her again to get past this fear of being question by other's as I am very private. So with this process I'm trying not to let fear be a factor if that makes since?
