I Have A Leak In My Gastric Sleeve!

Tuesday I was diagnosed with a leak. I am 2 1/2 months out. I am shocked to say the least. The pocket of infection is in between my stomach and spleen so they can't just have it drained. I have to have surgery tomorrow for it. It still sounds like he isn't sure how he is going to approach getting at the infection. I am worried and scared. He says most likely it was or is a pin hole leak. I am hoping it has healed itself and just needs the infection removed from the abdominal cavity. Anyone ever been through something similar?

Update for the day -

First test (sinogram) shows no more leak - will have a upper GI tomorrow to confirm that. BUT I do have a fistula between my abdominal cavity and lungs....no idea what will happen with that or even what it means. Dr said very unusual and he wants to consult someone on it.

Oh Libbe keep the faith honey at least the leak has stopped. We are thinking of you and saying our prayers.

Hugs

2nd test confirms leak is healed and also confirms fistula. Not sure where that will go. Expecting to hear I can start back on liquids soon.

Glad to hear the leak is healed!!!!!! I don't know anything about fistula (only the one on the Oprah Show and I know that is different than yours). I hope it can be taken care of by your surgeons and you can finally move on to liquids.

I'm so glad to hear the leak has been cleared!!! Healing prayers to you regarding your fistula as well. Better days are ahead for you it seems, thats great! :)

Have you found out what a fistula is?

The complication rate with VSG is only supposed to be 1 %.

I am so very sorry you have all had to go through this and I wish nobody would ever have complications. !!

I pray that all of you are healed and will be living a normal life very soon.

I missed this before as well, but want to wish all of you who have had severe complications better days ahead. I am so sorry that (all 3 of you) have had such complications resulting from surgery. Libbe, I am so glad the leak is finally healed and hope that the fistula can easily be resolved. What a time you've had. Thank you for coming and sharing your story and allowing us to at least give you a shoulder to cry on. Hugs. I'm sure this has been very difficult and I really hope better days are right around the corner for you!

Guess I never updated. I started oral fluids last Thursday and yesterday got the ok to advance to soft foods :))) Doing nothing for the fistula at this point. My drain may be keeping the path open. Hoping it will close when that eventually comes out.

Well the stitch holding my drain in place broke today and the drain has come out several inches. I called the Dr, they said tape it to my body and come in Monday and they will take it out!! WOOO!

I can't even imagine. I have been having terrible L. shoulder pain since surgery too(no fever). I am glad that you are on the mend.

My drain is OUT!! O-U-T OUT!!! YAY! Feeding tube to hopefully follow in 2 weeks :biggrin5:

OMG! this must be so scary for you. I know it is for me. I am sending you healing energy your way to help with healing. ;)

So sorry to hear about all of the issues you have had. Praying for you.
