Anyone Ever Had Gastric Sleeve Surgery In Mexico?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I am new to this site and am just a few days away from finalizing my surgery date in Mexico but wanted all the advice I can get. Maybe hearing a few stories will put me at ease. If you know of any surgeons or hospitals in Mexico, I would greatly appreciate it. This is my first time having surgery and I have no clue what to expect!!! Hope to make new friends on here that share what I am going through.

Yvette.

Hi There,

Your on the right site. There is a Self Pay Mexico forum on this site that will give you a lot of the information you need. I have been doing hundreds of hours of research and I am more than comfortable with my decision to have surgery in Mexico. I am going with Dr Aceves November 22nd. But there are other doctors such as Kelly and sum others that people talk highly of. So due your DD. Also go on obesityhelp.com and youtube and I am sure you will decide. Much success on your journey.

I was sleeved by Dr. Kelly in TJ on Sept 1st. The doctor is first class. My surgery took only 38 minutes. I have had no complications. I'm pretty healthy and had 60 lbs to lose. My surgery was on Thursday afternoon and I was back at my desk job on Tuesday morning. I'm a private person and nobody at my work suspects I had WLS. I would highly recommend surgery in TJ with Dr. Kelly. I can't speak for other doctors. I spent two nights in the hospital and then two nights at the Lucerna Hotel in TJ. It was beautiful. My sister and I felt very safe walking up and down the streets. I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to even have the surgery. I couldn't pay 18K+ in the states.

Thank you gals so much! I came into this site only being aware of one surgeon..Now there are 2 mor that have been added on my list. I am continuosly doing research and will have to try that other website as well. I have heard many great things about both surgeons. I am planning on having surgery on 11/23 or first week of Dec.

MsLadyKanKan: How much are you paying with Aceves? I read somewhere in the $8k is that correct?

CoffeBean: How has the post op experience been for u? and what was the price?

I'm really considering calling these to drs and making a final decision soon.

My mom is having her surgery tomorrow morning by dr. Ponce de leon in TJ.. We both have done tons of research and have read every possible thing we could find about him. I'm feeling good about it. I'll post some updates after it's all over... (and I can breathe again!) Good luck with your journey! You will love your sleeve!

Dr Aceves is $8750. I think Kelly is around $5500. I am willing to pay the $3000 difference because his credentials just cant be beat in my opinion. I am a Nurse and I am looking for specific qualifications and standards that most people may not feel are important. Dr Aceves is the only one who seems to meet all of my criteria. He is F.A.C.S and that was big deciding factor for me. With him you spend 1 day at hotel and 3 days at Hospital. If u look on all the web sites I couldnt find one bad comment about him. I am sooooo nervous about any surgery because there are risk no matter what, I just want to be confident in my decision. So chose who you feel confident with. If u chose Aceves that would be great and I would see you in Mexicali cause I am having mine on NOV 22 we would be sleeve sisters, Nevertheless, its a great journey we both look forward to join.

I am in Mexicali right now. I had surgery with Dr Aceves on Tuesday. Going home today. It has been a WONDERFUL experience. Much more personalized care than I have ever received in the states. A little sore and a little gassy, up walking 2 hours after surgery. Wonderful support team.

I was 10 months ago. With the recent problems that have cropped up with the site I went to - a robbery, a couple of bad complications and the founder going spastic on a few patients - I can't whole heartedly endorse the place I went. It worked out fine for me and hundreds of others too. You decide for yourself.

Hey there. My surgery was done by Dr. Fernando Garcia Govea in TJ. Great hospital stay and great hotel. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience and the hospital staff. Cost was $5K

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
