How Muchshould You Weigh???

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how much should we really weigh to be healthy... Is it on the BMI scale.. I have had a nuutritionist weigh me on one of the scales that tells you how much your bones and organs weigh and then they come up with an ideal weight for you..and your frame???I am 5'9" tall and lets say I am not petite or tall and thin even thin?? I have really large bones . Does it matter?? should everyone that is 5'9" weigh 145-165 or is there exceptions.. I would like to know how tall you are, what size you want to be and what you think you would weigh?? or tell me those of you who are happy with were you are and brave how tall, weight, and size? Thanks in advance..

I am 5'4" my Dr. said that 5' should be 105 lbs and 5lbs more for each inch. So I should be 125 - far from what I weigh or even what I want to weigh. I have never been thin, but I would like to be like a size 10 -12 I want to shop in Normal stores. :-)

My Dr. said that age is a factor also.....I am 5', 54 yrs old and I was told I should weigh 125. A few years ago I lost it all down to 128 and I looked and felt great....I don't think I would want to be any thinner than 125, I would look too thin and drawn for my age.

well I am 6'2 and the normal weight for me is 180, but I do not want to be that small. My nutristionist said 180 would be be tskinny so I am shoting for 199. when I get there I might be happy and I might want to lose that last 20 lbs. we will see....

I think you have to know your body. Height weight charts give you only an estimate.

I'm 5ft 10 and currently weigh about 195lb - 89kg to me. I'm kind of medium build, I'm not a "big" blokey kind of person, but I'm not one of those willowy model types either. My healthy weight range is about 65-80kg and I know that I look and feel much much better at the bottom end of that range. I may be healthy at 80, as I am now, and pretty fit, but I carry way too much fat.

I dont seem to have a lot of muscle, I'm more slender in that regard even though the size of my wrists etc would indicate that I have a largeish build. At 80kg I'm blobby and fat and definitely overweight for me.

I have no intention of a near enough is good enough attitude to this, I want to get down to a good weight for me. I dont need to look perfect in a bathing suit, but I know where I look and feel best.

Are we talking about how you THINK you should look? Or what will give you the longest life? There's a study out there that shows that people who weigh right at the balance between normal and underweight live the longest. Even the people who come in underweight live longer than those in the middle of the healthy weight range.

Life is like a long walk up a steep slope. The less baggage you have to carry, the further up that slope you'll make it.

Having said that, I'm 5' 9" and my dream weight is 130 pounds - that's model skinny and highly unlikely. My chosen goal weight is 150 because I doubt I'll ever see 130 pounds again in my lifetime, but honestly, I'd be happy if I got down to 170! lol

That is a cool calculator, Rachele, thanks! But clearly, this is a subjective thing that no online calculator can do for us. It can't know, for example, MY ratio of lean body mass to fat, even though it gives some numbers on that score.

I thought it was interesting that the lower we go with our current weight, the lower it goes with our "ideal" weight. It's a no-win situation!

I am 5'4" and according to Dr's, should weigh about 130. I've never - even when I was on the high school swimming team - weighed 130lbs. I'm too muscular for that weight. I think 150 is best for me. That's my goal.

I think that EVERYONE is different. I am 5ft4 and I felt my best at 110. I have been as low as 93. And as high as 372. I have wide hips and big boobs, but thin bones. And I looked healthy, and felt healthy at 110. A lot of people would not feel healthy or look healthy at 110 though. I think that you need to adjust your goal as you get closer to it.

Alexandra,

You are absolutely right, but I thought it was pretty neat, too. I don't think 151 sounds right to me for me. But I guess I won't know til I get there. I just want to weight less than my darn husband!! LOL!

OK, that calculator said I'm 5.5# over my normal weight. (Not my medical ideal weight, that's some crazy number that I would have to be dang near in a hospital to get to, seems like :D )

Maybe they and my doctor are on the same page, cuz his goal for me (he's ultra-conservative about goal weights) is just under 6# from where I am now.

Obviously they haven't seen my thighs.:phanvan

(*shudder*)

I think I could lose a good 15# (or about 9.5# past my doctor's very conservative goal) and look fabulous.

I just hope I can do it healthily - so I can look and feel good - that's what matters.

Hard to believe that I could be within sniffing distance of goal, but the closer I get the slower I seem to lose weight. It's such a grind - I'm fighting to lose each ounce until I get another nuclear fill like I had before. :nervous

Wish me luck.

I am 215 now @ 5'2". My first pic is me at 145 which is still considered overweight. I felt overweight at the time, but looking back, I think I was fine. My mom still thinks I needed to lose 20 more pounds! The dress I was wearing in the pic is a size 5. I think you should really weigh at what you feel comfortable at.

I'm also 5'9." I want to weigh about 185. I want to wear about a size 12 or a Large. Not looking to be superthin. I like my curves and so does my husband.

I'm 5'6" and my original goal was 140, but I've I've fiddled with that a little bit. Now it's more 140~160. At 155ish I'll be in a "normal" BMI, but, I'm not really sure if I'll care what my BMI is at that point. My sister was a size 7 at about 140, and she's built a little more slender than I am. If I could be a 7 or an 8, I'd probably die and go to heaven right there.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
