Recommended Posts

I will be having my sleeve done on April 10th with Dr. Chand. I am excited and nervous as well, I know that loyola is a great hospital and trust that he is the best surgeon for me

Gina how are they with the whole promptness of submitting stuff to the insurance. I have been waiting 3 weeks for my sleep study results and every time I call they say they are waiting on it or that they called the sleep study place to find out what is going on. Everything was full steam ahead until now. I'm so nervous about this because my BMI is 2 notches below 40 and all my blood work came back fine so i don't have any comorbilities :-/

I didn't have any problems getting things submitted. I had the sleep study right at loyola and didn't have any delays with getting results. I did have a test at gottleib that they couldn't find in the computer for a couple days but no other issues. I had approval from my ins in less than a week. Where did you have your sleep study done?

Hmm that's crazy I would keep on them just call every day. I had to do that with hinsdale hospital for some records I needed. Call Dr chands office and leave a message for katie instead of the front desk girls, maybe she will have better luck getting the results. Its been way longer than appropriate the sleep study dept HAS to have read them by now

Thank you so much! I will do that :)

I am. I feel like I am going to miss that feel good feeling food gives me.

I am both excited and nervous. Most of the nerves are because I have two babies that I need to be there for but I am confident in dr chand and the staff at loyola and I have been told over and ove r that I am super healthy for a fat person so I know I will be ok. I do def get worried about not eating the same way but then I stop and think about all of the things I can't do now that I can replace my food addiction with. Like taking my kids to a Water park or shopping in any store I want or anything I was embarrassed to even try cuz I'm so heavy. And I know that eventually I will be able to eat the things I love again only much less of them and still feel satisfied. I know it's going to be a struggle to align my brain and stomach but I am so ready!

Again many many prayers for a smooth surgery for you!

Hi, I'm interested in your experiences with St. Alexius Elk Grove and the Kane Center practice. Dr. Kane is my potential surgeon? I'm waiting for insurance approval.

I went through the Kane Center practice as well. I did all of my preop stuff at St. Alexius but ultimately had the surgery on 9/24/12 at Alexian Brothers because it fit better with my schedule and my dr (Dr. Rantis). The surgery went great and I stayed 2 nights. The hospital staff was wonderful. I met Dr. Kane briefly 2x while in the hospital. He seemed very nice and and had a good bed-side manner.

Hello, everybody im fairly new to this site, I was suppose to be sleeved on April 8th but had a nervous break down in the hospital the day of surgery, I could not stop crying so I decided it was not my time and left, well on another note I have reschedule for may 9 I have every confidence I will go through with it this time I just want to be healthy and live as long as possible, I have no other health problems beside back pain, im so looking forward to getting this over asap, I was talking to some of the people on here and they advise me to get some volume from my doctor before hand, called and was made aware they do not want any thing on the stomach day of surgery, but good news I can have something through the iv if I need it before I go in to surgery its good to know I can have it if needed, thanks for the advice im on my way..

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
