SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY WITH EVERYTHING ELSE WRONG WITH ME!

Recommended Posts

HELLO ALL :) IM SOOOO HAPPY TO HAVE FOUND THIS SITE, IT LOOKS GREAT! I GUESS I DIDN'T CHOOSE A GOOD TOPIC DESCRIPTION, BUT IT WAS THE BEST I CAN THINK OF. OK, HERE IS MY STORY...I AM A 46 YR OLD FEMALE. I HAVE BEEN MORBIDY OBESE ALL MY LIFE. I WAS ALREADY WEIGHING 300 LBS IN THE 3RD GRADE!!!, AND GAVE BIRTH TO MY SON WEIGHING ALMOST 12 LBS, AT 475 POUNDS!!! I HAVE BEEN THROUGH BOUTS OF ANOREXIA, AND IN PARTICULAR...BULEMIA. I COME FROM AN ITALIAN FAMILY THAT KNEW NOTHING ABOUT NUTRITION, AND A TYPICAL MEAL WAS 5 DIFFERENT CARBS, 5 DIFFERENT meats, AND THENSOME. OVER THE YRS, I HAVE DEVELOPED DIABETES TYPE 2, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, ASTHMA, ARTHRITIS, AN ERROSIVE ESOPHAGUS, GASTRIC REFLUX, SOMETHING OR ANOTHER GASTRITIS, A HAETAL HERNIA, AND MORE, WHICH I CAN'T THINK OF AT THIS MOMENT. I HAVE ALSO HAD 4 HERNIA REPAIRS, AND 4 OR 5 BOWEL OBSTRUCTIONS, A GALL BLADDER AND APPENDIX REMOVAL, A C-SECTION, A CATHETERIZATION WHICH I HAD TO HAVE TO BE CLEARED CARDIOLOGY WISE FOR THE GASTRIC BYPASS WHICH I NEVER HAD, AND NOW I HAVE LUPUS! JUST TO GIVE U AN IDEA OF MY PAST AND PRESENT LIFE STYLE. A GASTRIC BYPASS SURGEON IN NO. NJ REFERRED ME TO THIS SURGEON WHO SUGGESTS THE SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY IS WHAT I NEED TO HAVE DONE, IN ADDITION TO ANOTHER HERNIA REPAIR AT THE SAME TIME. ALL SURGEONS IN THE PAST TOLD ME I WAS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR THE BARIATRIC SURGERY CAUSE OF ALL MY HERNIA/BOWEL OBSTRUCTIONS, AND...I HAVE NO MUSCLE LEFT IN MY STOMACH FROM ALL THE PREVIOUS SURGERIES. MY INTESTINES, AT THIS TIME HAVE DROPPED WAY BELOW MY PELVIC AREA ON XRAYS WHICH WAS SHOWN AND EXPLAINED TO ME. THIS SURGEON I SAW A FEW DAYS AGO TOLD ME I AM GOING TO DIE, AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE, I HAVE TO TAKE THAT RISK. THIS IS A TRAUMA SURGEON WHO SPECIALIZES IN HERNIAS. I AM DEATHLY AFRAID. I HAVE A 12 YR OLD BOY. I HAVE ONE SISTER, AND NO FAMILY LEFT AT THIS TIME, SINCE I WAS BORN AFTER 18 YRS MARRIAGE. PLZ, PLZ, I NEED ALL THE ADVICE, SUGGESTIONS, AND FEEDBACK POSSIBLE. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ MY STORY...NOVEL LOL :D I AM NOW WEIGHING BETWEEN 320 --330 LBS. ATTACHED IS MY PIC. THX AGAIN :)

Hello, I understand your afraid but the sleeve has been the best decision in my life. Like you I had many many many surgeries prior to deciding to have WLS so my thought was I made it through those other surgeries one more will be the solution I've been looking for and it was. Everytime I went into the hospital I thought about my daughter and who would take care of her, but I had to push out those fears and think of how heathy I would be and the quality of life at a heathy weight. It's normal to be afraid it's human, may I suggest speaking with your doctor and possibly a counselor to help with decision to have the sleeve.

Hope this helps, take care

You have to be pro active with your health care and if you do nothing..you will die so do this for yourself, You need to address the eating disorders mentally but the daibetes and arthritis will only improve or disapear. I had 3 previous surgeries so it was not a painful surgery for me, don't be afraid!!!! Good Luck, Welcome to the forum and keep us posted!!! HUGS!!!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
