GLAD to hear from you all! ~ I'm 56 & 11 weeks out...I have lost 34 pounds and feel great! I lost over 90 on a dr's program in 2008-2009 and put 65 back on, over 45 in 3 months. Out-Of-Control sooo I went to Mexico in December and very grateful of the decision! I feel I'm losing slow enough so I don't have "the wrinkles" and "bags" as I didn't last time. I have my 3 month Upper GI & bloodwork coming up and am worried that my insurance won't cover the GI expense. I was told to call my insurance & find out b-u-t that might put a red flag on it--am thinking I should take my chances? I was 270+ at my top, 185 at my lowest, started the sleever at 245 and now 209 = Can't wait for my 160 lb goal!

I am six weeks out today and am about 1/3 of the way to goal...low-carbing it for the most part as that seems to work best. No life-changing events yet, but I am looking forward to summer and being able to be more active. I am 56 and hypothyroid and thought I might be a slow loser but it appears I am hanging in there with the average bunch!

I just turned 55 yesterday. I am almost 5 weeks out, have lost 30 lbs and am in a major stall--but I am getting smaller in clothing sizes. I figure I will lose some, then my body rearranges everything, then I lose some more. I'm trying not to get upset about stalls. I'm going shopping for a treadmill today--maybe that will help.

Hey,

I am 53 and 6 days out from my sleeve. I am not sure if it is my age or something else going on bu still have a tremendous amount of pain after standing or walking for about 3 mins. I am going to call the dr. Monday morning. With the 2 week pre op diet and 1 week sleeved I have lost 13 lbs.

I love having a 50's forum.

Hope you ladies don't mind me hi-jaking this thread... I am looking for a little advice that, well ladies of a certain age will understand!!

THE MENOPAUSE!!

I have read your posts and you are all doing sooooo well! Are any of you paddling in the murky Water of the menopause yet? I ask, because my blood test indicate that I might be going through it a little early ( I am 39 on the verge of 40) and I was wondering how the hormone thing effected your weight loss, craving, moods etc and basically, how do you deal and over come this?

Any words of wisdom will be greatly received x

I finished menopause at 42 and must say it was a massive relief to be done with monthly periods. No more planning around them! I didn't have any mood swings or food issues. I did have hot flashes that disturbed my sleep and so I had hormone replacement therapy for about 8 months. I did notice drier skin and an annoying patch of hair under my chin due to reduced estrogen levels. I am hypothyroid and have a slow metabolism anyway, so I hit the gym and tried to build some muscle mass to keep osteoporosis at bay. Being postmenopausal doesn't seem to have affected my ability to lose weight, albeit not as quickly as my pre-menopausal sleeve (and similar BMI) sisters but it is coming off with the low-carb diet.

Really, I sailed right through menopause without a problem.

Congrats on the 55 lbs loss!

Hey Foxbins,

thanks for the insight... all sounds good then! I ain't completely sure where I am with it all yet, causes and that is confusing me at the moment, will wait to see what my doc says! I suppose I am looking for a reason for my slow weight loss...lol =]

I'm 53 and was sleeved last Wednesday. I started menopause at about 43 and I was on hormones, but the Dr at the hospital told me to completely stop taking them, so this must really change everything in your system. (and if I am off them for good, yee haw!) I actually have been off them since 2 weeks prior to surgery and not one hot flash. Can't comment on the mood swings yet...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
