Not without me, you're not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the hated waddle and not liking it!!!

Oregodaisy,

I'm with you...if I get a neck waddle then I'm off to the plastic surgeon. I am down 62 pounds since 6/1/11 from my highest weight. I could be down another 10 or 20 by the fall. My skin is doing okay so far. I mean okay for a 56 year old woman with pretty good elasticity.

I really could not handle the way my neck looked. My face was not nearly bad as my neck, but the only way I could get my neck fixed was a face lift.

I really hope this numbness goes away though!

Hello

I wanted to be sleeved on my 53rd birthday this year but I have to wait till Sept, 20 th. But I really don't mind the wait. I am finally doing something for myself and I am so looking forward to the rest of my life.

Hi fellow nifty fifties!

I'm 54. Like others, I wish I had done it years ago, but I would have to have went self pay. I'm one of those whose weight crept up over the years, so just this year I was heavy enough (BMI of 40 or more) to qualify under my insurance. Also, I wouldn't have wanted the operations they had available back then. I'm happy with the VSG, but the RoenY and others still scare me.

My weight loss has not been as fast as some on the list, but I consistently lose every week. Start of pre-op diet (2/15) weight was 254. Day before surgery (5/16) was 222. Weight today is178. So that's a total of 74 lbs.

My skin is springing back pretty good. I expect to have some saggy skin, but it's hard for me to tell how much is from being mid-50s and how much is from being overweight. I'm lucky to have elastic skin and have no stretch marks to speak of. Still waiting to see if I will have the tummy pooch and arm and leg fat flaps that some get. I'm still carrying fat in these areas, but I've got a little more than 40 lbs. to go till I'm at my goal weight (135). I picked that weight because it puts me in the middle of the normal range for my height, 5'6". I may need to adjust it up or down a bit.

I have taken longer to recuperate than many on the list. I used to think that was my age, but I see many my age that are full of zest. I still poop out faster than I did pre-surgery. At my three month appt. the Dr. said some people take up to 6 months to regain their stamina.

I have arthritis in my hands and had hoped the weight loss would make that better, but they are about the same. My feet ache less, although they still bother me if I am on them for a long period. Maybe because I wore heels constantly when I was younger. I think I wore out those fat pads on the bottom of my feet.

My blood pressure meds are reduced, and I am hoping to lose them altogether soon. I have an appt. to see my primary doctor and I hope to lose the cholesterol med too!

My hair hasn't thinned yet, but even if it does, my head is smaller so maybe it won't be so noticeable :-)

Overall, a huge success! I can't wait to be at goal and eating like I will for the rest of my life. I'm still eating a max of 1/2 cup at a time unless it's a liquid, like Protein drink, Soup, or yogurt smoothie.

I got my date! Oct 7th Woot ! Woot! My Dr normally does not operate on Friday, but is going to for me! I plan on taking 1 week off and this way I will have 2 weekends giving me the total of 9 days. He won't do my daughter on that Fri so she is going to have her Surgery 10/12/11. Which I think is a good idea, I will be off from work from my surgery and I can be at the hospital on her day to be just Mom.;)

After getting insurance approval on July 15th, I finally heard from my doctor that they were about 12 weeks out on surgery dates. I've switched drs, so they have to get new insurance approval, but it took less than a week last time. I'm hoping to hear that I have a date in late September or early October!

Welcome to all our newcomers to the great 50's thread.

We may have done this surgery later in life than others, but I love that old saying "today is the first day of the rest of your life" I am sure my 60's are going to be ALOT happier now that I can do so many more things than I could when I was fat. I know I feel much younger, carrying so much less around!

Hi everyone. I am in my mid 50's. Hopefully will have my sleeve done in late April - early May. My insurance requires 6 months of Dr. supervised diet. That gives me time to get all of my other paperwork lined out.

Welcome New_Hope! Maybe we'll be sleeve sisters - I had my VSG on May 17, 2011. Best thing I've ever done for my health besides starting an exercise program.

I've been wondering where the 50's are also? We need to keep this topic going. Don't let those 40's and 60's show us up!!

I'll be 57 this March. I live in Utah. I just got on disability for my weight in November (the same month I got sleeved!)

so I don't work. I just graduated from college in 2009 with a Bachelors in Social Work.

I have 5 kids (had-1 was killed a year ago when he was hit by someone who was texting) and 4 granddaughters.

I have a husband in name only-we have been separated for 8 years (married 38). His employer has great insurance so it's easier this way.

I have had a great time with my sleeve, No pain, no problems that I don't cause myself. I have lost 70+ lbs in 3 months, my goal is to hit 100 at my 5 month anniversary.

How about you?????

WOW you are doing great. Doesn't sound like you should have any problems reaching your 6 month goal.

Glad to see this 50's thread moving again. I wonder if I will have to leave in Oct when I turn 60, lol.

Having the sleeve has certainly changed my life. I have a wonderful boyfriend that I know I would not have if I were still reallly fat.

Life is pretty normal now. I worry about regain and I have to reallly watch what I eat because it's just way too easy to eat junk now and gain weight back.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
