Hello, I'm new to the forum...

I've been doing research on lap band & then I decided that the sleeve is the better option for me... I know my insurance will not cover the procedure, so I'm exploring going to Mexico. I've already contacted Dr. Aceves (sp?) and got some information. I know I'll have to cut back and save money but I know it will be worth it. I can't continue to be unhealthy anymore..... To those of you that have been sleeved, Where did you have your procedure done? Any complications? How did your family & friends react? How are you dealing with the lifestyle changes???

I was referred by another Black women on here for my doctor. IT WAS AN AWESOME REFERRAL THANKS SO MUCH LADY. I got the cheapest price the best service. You should check him out Dr.Sergio Quinones tell him you got your referral from the website he will charge you 4300.00 and if you bring a friend he drops it to 4000.00. He is in TJ he is only like 5-10mins from the border. I will upload my pictures. I just got sleeved like a week ago today. He has the best rate and I had no issues.

Congrats!! My surgery was January 10. My surgeon was Dr. Portenier. Who do you have? When is your pre op group?

My experience was great! I had no issues with him or the hospital. My process wasn't as fast as I had hoped. I attended the seminar in August, submitted my application in September, my first appt was in October, preop testing and psych visit in Oct and Nov, got the schedule call in early Dec and January 10 was the earliest date. Girl, I was ready for surgery! LOL!

I've taken 5000 mcg daily for the last 3 years, long before surgery.

Wow, that's great! I also had dr. Yu. I saw him today for my seven months out ck up. My surgery was 12/13/11. I went from 230 to 165. You will do good but it's hard with ups and downs but the payoff is great. I struggled with each stage but I kept getting another chance to work toward my goal. I still hate Protein Drinks but I will down them without a thought. I take the journey one day at a time. Keep a journal. I struggled to walk on the track until I started doing 5 miles 5 days a week. I've stalled for the pass two months but I continue because I know the scale will change soon. You will do good.

Yep, I got me a nice wig too. But my hair is growing back. I'm happy about that and a lot of unwanted hair is growing too. :) I can deal with it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
