Not enough restriction?

Recommended Posts

I've had a VSG I'm 5 months now, I have restrcition though by now I can eat mostly anything just in tiny amounts. I was never ever expecting it to work on it's own, I actually thought I would have to work harder. I have nearly 20lbs still to goal, but I am still amazed of how well I'm doing, I just asked my mum via skype to tell me that this is not a dream !

Great posts everyone. Need2toLooseW, I am sure that if you address it with whatever Dr. you are using, they can work something out.. It is really important to address the hernia. Please forgive me, my post wasn't saying that ALL VSG are restricted to certain kinds of food, I just read about a COUPLE of people that it looked like they only felt good when eating healthy protein-those few people were forced to eat healthy. In general, the whole point of ANY SLEEVE whether regular VSG or GPS (Gastric Sleeve Plication) is to be able EAT ANYTHING eventually-that is why I think ANY SLEEVE is GREAT! :)

The point of my post was that I was personally reminded that the greatest part of the weightloss depends on eating good food and making good choices. I was nervous for a little bit that I didn't have the restriction like I thought it was going to be, but I think I am going to be just fine. I strayed a little bit the other day from the Protein wagon-went to eat spaghetti (made with lean turkey meat) for the first time since surgery, one of my FAVORITE things. As I prepared it, I picked at a couple of canned mushrooms, and tasted a couple of noodles to make sure that they were cooked right. Pasta was one of my favorite things before surgery. Once it was all done, I put about a cup in bowl, thinking since I loved it so much, I would make a serious dent in it. It made me laugh, because I could only eat about 3 bites before I was stuffed! Before surgery, I could have eating 2 HUGE bowls full. This time, I actually seemed to enjoy the meat more than the Pasta part! That is huge for me! And a few bites are DEFINATELY an improvement over a couple of bowls full! : ) Surgery was a HUGE difference in my life and cannot imagine life without it- I would do it again in a heartbeat! I am going to work my tool and loose the weight! I wish all of us great weightloss and maintenance.

Dr Lopez Corvala fixed hernias on a couple of other patients that were operated on around the same time as me, luckily I didn't have one! cool.gif

Thanks so much to all of you. I am trying to decide between the VSG and the VSP. Please continue to post.

So far, it sounds like, with the Plication, you can eat anything you want, but with the VSG, you cannot? Is that correct? WIth the VSG, can you eat vegetables?

And it sounds like that with the Plication, you still get hungry, so that is a drawback.

Please keep posting, you are my sources of information regarding the VSP, and there is so little info available.

Also - a question, are the other doctors (besides Watkins) correcting the h. hernias when they to the Plication?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
