I've been on the liver shrinking diet for a week, and have not cheated AT ALL. I went to see my doctor today, and I have lost ten pounds in that week! He said my liver is smaller, and I still have one more week to be on the liver shrinking diet before my surgery on December 1. After the doctor appointment, I went and CELEBRATED with a BURGER AND FRIES!!! I ate ALL of it. Is this going to set back my surgery, or cause problems with it, if I stay on the diet all the next week without cheating at all? Can't believe I did that... sigh...

I did the same thing prior to my surgery and I've been sleeved fourteen days now. What helped me was I increased my Water by the gallons and excercised more at the gym. After my surgery my doctor told me my liver was perfect and everything went very well. PLEASE TRY NOT to make this mistake again you should be fine. I hope this helps:rolleyes:

Fluffy no one knows if this will set you back or not. You will not know until the surgeon tells you. However, just to be safe you should get back on to your diet now and try not to make that mistake again. I know its really tough, but for your own safety, stick to the rules.

i know it's hard, but we all have cheated one way or the other, don't be so hard on yourself, tomorrow will be a new day, a new opportunity to get on track again.....if you can have a half hour more of exercise, makes you feel less guilty. goodluck!!!

Thanks, everyone! I am going to stick to my liver shrinking diet until my surgery date! I guess it felt like my 'last supper.' I can do this - thank you for your support!

Yolanda, how are you feeling now? Do you still have pain? I'm a little apprehensive, but I think it's because I'm not sure what to expect. Eight more days!

And everyone should know - get that "Last Supper" mentality out of your mind. With the VSG we can all eat whatever we want once you're at goal weight. I ate a hamburger just last weekend. Needless to say, it was the first whole hamburger I've eaten this year. And it took me hours to eat the whole thing. But I was craving a burger, I bought a burger, and I ate that burger. And I'm just fine. So someday you WILL be able to eat these things in moderation.

But for now, stick to your pre-op diet. Have your surgery, follow the guidelines, lost the weight - which I have no doubt you will do. Then when you are at goal or near it, go ahead and indulge every now and then. You'll only be able to eat a few bites anyway. And you may realize that what you once thought was so wonderful and decadent you just really don't care about anymore. You feel better being thin and eating healthy foods, you realize bread and carbs only fill you up and don't leave room for the Protein. And you find you don't miss them anymore.

But sometimes...only a burger will do - huh? I feel your pain - hang in there!

I doubt if it's going to make any difference. Just follow the plan til your surgery date. Drink lots of Water and stay low carb and everything will be fine.

Should I be worried? I go in for surgery tomorrow and was never told anything about shrinking my liver. Is this customary? Here's hoping my liver isn't too large. :-/

No liver shrinking diet here either. Just 24 hours of clears before surgery. Just follow your surgeon's orders, everyone is different!

Thanks! That's good to know. I'm drinking my Clear liquids now! Actually I'm gulping because I know I won't be able to after tomorrow :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
