I have had my lapband for almost 3 years and have lost over 100 pounds. In the last 5 months I have had 2 slips and have decided to revise to a sleeve. My surgeon said he has seen too many deaths from leaks due to scar tissue from the band. He wants to do a sleeve but instead of cutting the whole stomach, he will cut away 85% and then do a Gastric Plication on the top 15% of the stomach...he feels this will eliminate the chance of a leak. I've never heard of this and he has never done this. He is a pioneer in Lapband surgery and at a Center of Excellence hospital. I have the utmost trust in him but I'm not thrilled being a guinea pig with surgery. Have you heard of this ever being done? What are you thought?
Thank you for your advice!
