Not wanting to eat

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I had my surgery on October 11th, so I'm a little more than 2 weeks out. I went to my post-op appt and told them that I wasn't getting in much food or much fluids-that both just seemed appalling to me. I'm really really trying to get in a lot of Water now, I don't want to be dehydrated. I'm lucky if I'm able to get in a Protein drank and a protein carbmaster yogurt. Very lucky. Usually I just get in the Protein Drink. Any advice? Or should I just suck it up and eat eat eat?

Thanks all!

I'm on day 29 and I wasn't able to get enough Protein or Water in. I passed out in the shower. I went to the doctor who told me I was dehydrated and he gave me 5 days to get in 60 oz of water per day or they would admit me and IV me. My problem is I get so full when I drink that I don't want to eat. Doctor told me to consentrate on fluids for a week. It will be a week tomorrow and I feel so much better. Not getting in 60 still but much closer. I keep hearing it gets better and it is for me.

I'm having the same problem and I'm 3 weeks out. Its like I get in one or the other. If I concentrate on my Protein then I get it all in but not my fluids. If I concentrate on fluids then I get them all, but not the protein. And most days when i get all the protein in I'm not eating anything else. I've figured out that i'm getting in less than 500 calories a day and thats if I get in 2 Protein Shakes. I'm trying to figure out how to find a balance. I wish I could offer advice, but I am feeling lost too.

It's really important to concentrate on fluids right now while you are healing. It's very easy to become dehydrated. There have been a lot of people in the past who have posted about having to be hospitalized to get IV fluids. It's a very vicious cycle because when you get dehydrated, then you get nauseous.

I know everyone wants to get their Protein in, but if you have a choice between fluids and Protein shakes, go with the fluids. You can have poweraide and gatoriade instead of Water.

The protein will come later, when it gets easier.

I totally agree with Oregondaisy. It's so easy for me not to get fluids in since I have to wait 30 minutes to drink after eating.

Also, while working on getting your fluids in you can add some Kellloggs K2O Protein mix which at least gives you 5 grams of protein for a bottle of Water. Not a ton but at least it is something. I use the pink lemonade one and it is easier to get the fluids down.

There really is nothing that will help but TIME! I was just in the same boat as you a few weeks ago. Yes, focus on fluids so you do not get dehydrated. Do your best with Proteins. Just rest and get through. In time you'll be able to start eating some normal things to get Protein in. Just keep up with that Water or crystal light or whatever it is you are drinking!!

The first few weeks I had a really hard time getting any Protein in. I am six weeks out now and it is getting easier. I still have to watch my fluids so I am not dehydrated. I have been drinking Vitamin 0 Water. The flavors are nice and you can measure using the bottle later in the day with water. One is 20oz so I do my best to down two during the day at work and whatever I can drink after dinner. :)

How about those Isopure drinks that are more like Gatorade vs. a shake, for example:

Would that double as a protein/fluid?

That is a good question to ask you doctor. Most people hate Isopure so I have never seen that question in here before. I drank it, and didn't like it, but didn't hate it either. It was easier to drink the first week because it's not as thick as other Protein drinks.< /span>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
