Ex co-worker died of a heart attack (Dr told him to lose weight)

Recommended Posts

Ex co-worker of mine died at the age of 50 from a heart attack while sitting at work (he now works at a different company). We all knew him, and he was an awesome person. Yet his life ended while in a chair in an office building. And he wasn't even that old...

They're blaming weight and lack of exercise.

Makes me feel good about going through the VSG approval process. I DO NOT WANT TO DIE AT 50 YEARS OLD, especially while sitting at work doing overtime on some important project.

Sorry to hear about your co worker. . . yes it's crazy when they are so young and just die . . . but you know i know very fit atheletes who were working out and just died from massive heart attacks. . . so it's not just from overweight and lack of exercise. . could have been genetic too. . . but i am so happy i got this WLS done 8 months ago and so happy that i'm exercising again and have energy and such to actually say i'm living life again. . . you will enjoy your WLS as well. .. just hang in there, it'll be there before you know it! Good luck!

This is what matters most. You will be able to be there for your family and yourself. You will be able to feel well and focus on being the person you are meant to be, enjoying the physical parts of life. I am constantly surprised at the many ways my obesity was affecting my life and I didn't even realize it! Surgery will be here in no time for you!

It is great that you are doing work with a NUT and getting prepared to do this in a way that is most healthful.

Good luck & keep posting!

Anna

Doug, I'm sorry to hear about your Ex co-worker, when things like that happen it makes you realize that your life could be gone in a heartbeat. Not only a heart attack, but a car wreck, etc. Just live your life as each day was your last. You are doing a good thing by deciding on the sleeve. Man, I could not imagine dieing at work, that would really suck. Good luck on your journey. Let us know when you get your surgery date.

very sad... there was a sweet lady who used to work here and I would see her coming in to work each day. She had to stop and rest several times to get to her office. (she was a large woman on a tiny frame) My heart really went out to her and I was very sad to hear that she passed away due to complications with her heart and weight. This surgery is scary sometimes but not doing anything scares me far more.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
