What are you telling work?

Recommended Posts

I had decided not to tell anyone, except my husband of course, and I haven't told anyone at work yet (my surgery is 9/14). I caved though and told my sister. That was a mistake, b/c she was horrified at the thought and is trying to talk me out of it. I have had my band for 2 1/2 years, lost wt, but problems galore and now regaining. She has had her band for 2 years and lost some in the beginiing, but is regaining it rapidly....Now wish I had just kept it too myself..

As for me and my surgery, we will stay behind closed doors. I went through all this already with the Lap-Band. Once I started gaining weight back I suddenly realized I'd made a huge mistake in telling everyone I had WLS.

So with my new procedure, I'm going to tell them I'm having my band removed (which I am) and that is all. They do not need to know all the gory details. When they ask why I'm having my band removed I just tell them because its making me ill.. which is also the truth.

Then my plan for when they ask how I'm losing all kinds of weight again, I'll tell them I'm on the Atkins plan, which I will be. I'm starting already. It's really no one's business here at work what I'm doing. Firstly, I really don't think they care, and Secondly, if things go awry I don't want to feel like I owe any explanations. BTDT!! :001_rolleyes:

I've told my immediate family. No one at work knows and I'd like it to stay that way. Too much controversy, jealousy. I don't need negative attitudes.

I just told everyone I was taking a vacay and that's it!

I have chosen to keep it a secret with the except of my sister, mother and two close friends. I feel a little embarassed since my BMI is only 33 and paying out of pocket. I feel like a lot of people would ridicule me and my decision to persue WLS but I do have 75 pounds to lose and it is not going anywhere without surgery. I just kind of feel like it is nobodys business!

To newandimproved,

I too have a BMI of 33 and don't feel many will understand so I have only told my husband and daughters. It is so personal and as you said, nobodiy's business. Best of luck to you on your surgery. I am having the plication rather than the gastrectomy. You?

Brand new here, and just "started" my journey today. I am working in tandem with my insurance provider at each step. I am so nervous about what to tell work as well. Also, my sister-in-law had lap-band and she says it did not work for her, in fact she wants it removed and it trying to convince me to stop my journey.

I am 35 and have been overweight my entire life. My weight rules my life, everything I do I somehow have to think about my weight. I work in sales and I really feel people prefer to work with thinner women, not overweight women. I am not sure if they think I am lazy or what. I just want to lose this weight and make myself happy, I just do not feel my family will give me the support I really need.:001_tongue:

I originally was gonna tell my fellow employees, but now I'm saying "Atkins". Everybody has heard of Atkins, and knows it's a huge weight loss alternative.

My boss already knows, but that's kinda necessary considering all these Dr appts.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
