Ok I'm 48 mother of one 27 yr old, step mother to 3,( 30, 33, 35) I have 4 grnd children 10, 8, 4 and 2, these are my reasons for this. I want to see them all grow up. I want to be the best grandma I can be. I wish I would have started this journey sooner, so I would through the tough part already.

I haven't seen my son for a year, so the next time he sees me I will be thinner. He has never seen me thin. He is in the military, I hope to see him before end of the year.

Welcome to the fab 40s slimmommaSD. Go to tickerfactory.com and pick out your design then at the end when it shows your completed ticker copy it. then save the page to your favorites so you can update it. then go to my settings and choose signature. And past it in the signature box. When you go back to your favorites and put your password in you can update you stats and it will automatically change on this site. Hope that helps.

Ok, ticker done...So a little about me. Again, I am 47. I am married to my wonderful husband who is now retired from the military but still works as a contractor overseas so he is gone a lot :( but still is able to show me lots of support for this journey. Together we have four beautiful children ages 11, 17, 18, and 19! The 19 year old is in college and the 18 year old will start next fall...two down ;) I am more than ready to begin a new life and become healthier and happier for my wonderful family. I want to be around a LONG time and one day see lots of grandchildren. In about 20+ years I have tried every diet under the sun and the most I have ever been able to lose was about 35 pounds before I give up and regain even more. I am going in with the full knowledge that this will be a tool and not a cure, but I truly have a lot of hope that it's the tool I have been missing that will help me get to my goal and maintain. I love reading everyone's stories and I'm also addicted to watching vsg journies on youtube. I will probably start my own youtube channel this week to vlog my progress.

Anyway, I am very happy to have found this community and look forward learning and discussing things with you all!

Cheers!

Woohoo San Diego!!

I'm having mine at Sharp Memorial with Dr Mueller, he is so awesome!

I have a 5 hour class on Wednesday the 11th.

That's when I start my diet.

Do you have to do a 2 week diet also?

hellonurse, yes I just started my two week diet today which consists of two Protein Shakes and one small meal a day. Two days before surgery, Clear Liquids only, and then the day before I have to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate. The nurse told me to stay home on that day lol.

Yipes, I know how that stuff works!!

I go on Wednesday for my pre op class with my Doctor, so he will probably tell me the same protocol. If you could, keep me posted on your experience, since you are having WLS before me!

Hello Folks!

I am 42 yrs old. I will be 43 in October. I have two wonderful boys ages 15 and 18. I've completed all my consults. (Psych, Pulmonary, Cardiology, Nutritionist, doppler study, sleep study and bloodwork) I have my endoscopy scheduled for the 18th. The bloodwork showed I have bacteria in my stomach and the doc wants me to take antbx put I'm allergic. The office hasn't gotten back to me. I pray this doesn't delay my surgery. I'm hoping to be sleeved in April. My son graduates in June and I'm praying I will have lost enough to proudly stand and attend the ceremony without pain.

Hello all I am 45 was married to a man for 14 1/2 years till cancer took him in 2002. I have an 18 y/o son and in 2003 I "came out" in 2004 I met my wife and everything has been great for the past 8 years except this weight. I have been big all my adult life and I feel guilty and have apologized to my son for not doing something about it sooner so I didn't waste so many years just sitting and watching him instead of joining in. But like someone said earlier you can't live in the past so I am doing this now for him and me. I do not have a date yet still in the inital approval from insurance stage but I am hoping for mid July. I want to go ziplining and parasailing for my summer vacation next year so I am needing to be down at least 80-100 lbs so I will feel comfortable enough doing that but I need to loose 160-170 lbs all together. I am excited and nervous!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
