4 Days til' banding in Florida!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!! I will be banded this Friday 6/9/06 in Dade City, Florida by Dr. Grossbard and Dr. DiCiccio(sp?). I am excited and nervous. I have been on Optifast since May 15 and have mangaged not to lose my mind but instead 16 pounds. It feels good not to eat but I know I could not do this much longer.

I currently weigh 266 and my BMI is over 50. I am worried reading some of the postings that some people have been very hungry quite soon after surgery and I was promised by my doctor that I won't want to eat so the 4 more weeks of liquids I will have to endure won't be a big deal.

This surgery is costing us a small fortune. I have to be successful. I know, I know, it's a tool!! I spent a lot of money on "tools" in my fat life and I want this one to be the last. I hope that joining this forum will help me get through some of the stuff in my head that has made food such a damned addiction for me. I would love to hear from anyone. I hope I can figure out how this posting stuff works.:girl_hug:

I was banded 5/31. You will be just fine. So far the hunger is in my mind...I think I want to eat a horse...but strangely some sf Jello fills me up after a couple of spoonfuls. Of course, I'm only 5 days out. As for the cost, just think how much less you will spend on food? :girl_hug:

I am also having the band in Florida June 21st. I am getting nervous. Good luck! I have a friend that used your doctor 3 years ago.

I am new also. Being banded June 22nd at a Barix right outside of Philadelphia. I was actually fine until my Mommy insisted on coming up here from Florida which suddenly makes it feel like a major life threatening event. Go figure

jas21r8,

Dr. Grossbard was my assisting surgeon while my main surgeon, Dr. Aguila, did the surgery. I was banded in Tampa 3/23/06 and I'm down 30 pounds. I'm really not suffering (much)...no PB's etc. Get a lot of Malox before you come hoem from the surgery; it really helpswith the gas pains. Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
